Training - What Training?!

I was hoping to get another run in today, to continue the slow progression in my return, but with the weather it’s looking unlikely.

That leaves me at a fraction under an hour of running (my first two runs of 2020), four proper swim sessions for 9k total (plus another quick 800m splash), and just shy of 11hrs on the bike.

3.5hrs of trainerroad sessions, including a 3x20 sweetspot today, 2hrs of commuting, and the 5.5hr longer ride yesterday.

Training peaks has me at just over 1000 TSS for the week. 600 TSS over the weekend. The 400 TSS long ride is dominating both of those. And in all honesty probably overstated as I imagine the FTP has crept up after this 4 week block since getting back from Australia and back into structured training.

@stenard - Take a nap :sleeping:
Mine isn’t much better, though tempered by two total rest days

Guessing that guidance is on the iOS app? I don’t get anything like that on Android

Yeah - iOS.

Haven’t done anything since Wednesday. Head cold turned into chesty cough and have barely slept last 2 nights.
Consoled myself by eating piles of crap so not looking forward to weigh-in tomorrow.

Second week over 18 hours.
One IMUK bike loop

One 20 k run at very low heart rate and decent pace.
Which I could have easily done again…

Both outside?!?

One full distance swim

Really hard 2.5 hour a set wattage
5 spin classes and a few easier static bike/ run bricks.

Would have been a really good week if I hadn’t got shin splints for the first time in decades…!?

Oh well if it was easy it would be called golf or football

14hrs 28mins for me

3 swims - all with the club. Mainly CSS stuff.
4 bikes - 2 * 1hr easy spins (one due to frost, should’ve been 2.5hrs outdoors), one 5hr45min 146km 2,250m climbing ride. Very pleased with that one. Another climbing based 2.5hr ride, with some all time power records.
2 runs - One 18km, one 8km. Missed one due to Ciara.
2 complete rest days on Tuesday and Thursday.

Feeling pretty good on the bike, probably should do an FTP test as a benchmark. I guess it’s around 285W

One of the “ get the most out of yourself” best athletes I ever knew, always had two rest days…

Sometimes three…!

His long days were very long and his hard days were very hard but he really understood just how important rest is … when we probably didn’t.

He went particularly well at full distance races decades ago when the premium distance was Olympic and Ironman was for slow weirdos.

Going to have a play around with this in April and May …

What’s the worst that can happen…!?

Short Wattbike session to round the week off with some 30s sprints, sprint power is a bit weak.

Solid week that especially with two rest days in

Bit of a crap week for me. 2 x runs. One 10km and 21km with 345m elevation.

Was really a tale of two halves on tonight’s run. Super peaceful and tranquil on the way out. I switched my headtorch off on the lanes and ran by the moonlight. Was cursing taking my jacket all the way up … and then I turned to come back! :joy: Was very glad of my excellent Omm jacket for the next 10km!

Not done anything since Wednesday when head cold turned into chesty cough. Been sleeping (in the loosest sense of the word) propped up on sofa the last 3 nights and feel absolutely knackered now. Can’t see me training for a couple more days yet.
1 Swim - 1hr - 2400m
2 Bikes - 1:20 - 37km (+4 days commuting - 2hrs - 44km)
2 Runs - 54min - 9km (1 Brick)

Rob on Oxygen Addict podcast always says when you feel ready to train again, give it another 1-2 days.

That’s disgusting Funkster!

The last 5 or so were ugly af

Forced myself out at lunchtime today, despite looking out the window 5 mins before i was due to go and seeing howling wind, torrential rain and hail. I was just about to bin it off, but then thought it’s time for the winter of excuses to end. So i grabbed my stuff and wondered off up campus to the changing rooms.

I was rewarded with a break in the weather - little shower at the start and then bright blue sky (still windy though). Retribution i reckon.

That’s 32km run in the last 18 hours and the legs feel better now after my 12km than they did when i woke up this morning. there’s a lot to be said for genuine recovery runs!

Yeah, people thought I was mad going out at lunchtime; but the rain stopped within 2 mins and then the sun came out.

I was less lucky, went out in a break in the weather, then it started to hail, wind picked up and tried to blow me into the river, then sun came out, the rained, while sun was shining. Still managed 13k. Saw about 4 other runners, all equally mad
