Training - What Training?!

What he said…

21.1km mainly off road today, with a 25lb pack/boots. Wind was horrendous, as was the mud. Best confirmation of fitness was on Hinton Hill (used for local hill climb) where I turned a 180 to climb up it and gapped a guy in normal run kit just behind me :ok_hand:

Fairly big day for me.
2hrs20 on the turbo this morning at just under 0.8IF.
Longest run in well over 2 months (since the marathon) mid afternoon of 17.5k (4:36/km average pace).
Club swim this evening, of 2.6k.

CTL still creeping up, and triple digits now back within sight again. Reintroducing some running helps with that.

Another normal week for me as far as possible, but then easing off from Friday into a half marathon Sunday. With my lay off from running, I’m just treating it as a training session to see where I’m at, so just a 1 day taper!

You’ve had a cracking day today :ok_hand:t2:

Touch under 15 hours for myself.

Seemed like I was constantly shuffling my sessions around all week with weather, life, work and laziness. Got there in the end. Still feeling good and bar the odd early wake up or teething child middle of the night wake up I’m feeling good with where I’m at atm.

Next week looking like it’s going to be a fairly big bike week but I do feel like I’m slacking slightly on the swim/run

Windy 8 miler yesterday, keeping hr low, seeing some decent improvement in pace at that effort now.

2 hour turbo spin watching Barkley marathon docs on YouTube

A lighter week for me at just over 8hrs, culminating in today’s Hampton Court Half. Pleased with 1:27:58, a minute faster than last year in much tougher conditions. Felt really good until about 9 miles when things started to get a bit harder, more to do with tightness in my hips and core rather than the headwind. Definitely moving in the right direction and feeling more run fit.

I’m sticking with the vegan diet for the time being as I’m feeling really good on it. My CTL is also at 96 and gradually creeping up. Last year in my build towards IMCH my ctl was usually around 85-90 and I was wiped out. I’m recovering better from sessions and sleeping better (but not surprisingly, I haven’t found a spare 30 watts on the bike!).

Good running today. That can’t have been easy with the wind. Always creeps up on me that race. Did see you could EOL but thought better of it!

I was running past all the route signs, in what turned out to be a half marathon thinking, I could be doing the race, but then I realised I would have to run faster and put some effort in, and I remembered why I don’t!

Conditions certainly weren’t conducive to racing though, winds all over the place and strong.

Yes, I’m usually pretty consistent, pace wise, but the section from Kingston Bridge back along the towpath was very difficult. I was trying to find someone big to shelter behind but I kept finding myself either on my own or at the head of a group.

Another decent week for me. Touch under 63km, but more importantly I ran 5 days this week. Last time I did that was June!

Only a couple kms more than last week, but double the elevation. I consciously looked for more hills, but took them all nice and steady. Still being patient (for now), still playing the long game (for now).

5 x runs, 63.8km, 1,624m elevation.

Really busy week in work, so I’ll see what I can fit in. Hopefully still get around 3/4 runs and 50km still. Continuing February’s slow and steady mantra. Will add something new in March.

It’s the only way for me, when doing three sports.
If I was solely running - with the option for total rest days, or actually using the down day for proper active recovery, then I’d probably sack them off.

But, I tend to find I can bounce back quicker and truck on when doing them.

Also, I’m going to be doing it come race day, so why not get it drilled in now?

Got back into something resembling training after a coupe of weeks with cough/cold. Yesterday was my club’s first race of the season so Saturday pm and most of Sunday was taken up with that.
1 Swim - 1 hr - 2350m
3 Bikes - 2:15 - 62km (+4 days commuting 2hrs/44km)
1 Run - 1hr - 10km
+1hr S&C

Another decent week about 15h30m.

Double run on Friday 18km and 17km, legs felt a little tired, but much less than I thought
Saturday had 1 ex GB and one Ex Unkrainian riders turn up to weekly ride, so turned into an 80km sufferfest. AP and NP were only at HIM level, however, that doesn’t seem to reflect the level of pain - 34kph over 80km with 1200m climbing is a pretty nice average
Swim is coming along really nicely. Managed 3 days in the pool.
Managed 10 pull ups… next target 15
Sunday was a well earned rest day

Solid week less the running, 16+ hours.
Mostly of it due to a lumpy bike packing weekend to a Hartington youth hostel. Some 20%+ climbs into block headwind was comical
