Training - What Training?!

Stressful week outside of training, the 3h run gave me my longest break from it. :relieved:

Got a couple hours of gardening in and tidied up the pain cave a bit too. :+1:

Grr, I’m struggling to shake off this Covid-19! was feeling a bit grotty on Friday, and did nothing really on Saturday\Sunday in the hope I’d shake it off but it’s still here.

It seems to be coming in instalments, the sore throat has eased a bit but I’m now just feeling sluggish and fuzzy headed. Not really had the runny nose and eyes yet that I normally get, that’s probably tomorrow’s instalment.

I’ve got a 70.3 in 6 weeks and a marathon in 8 weeks, could do with a bit more than 3 hours PW of training.

What 70.3???
You lunatic

Galveston, Texas so it should be low 20’s I hope. Then heading to Boston if everything goes to plan.

Getting a bit nervous about events getting cancelled, the 70.3 will probably be alright but they might get nervous about the marathon.

Woohoo, my Covid-19 is easing, hopefully I’ll get some training done today, will keep it steady though.

After pulling my calf about 2 weeks ago I’ve only managed the occasional easy run session. Just noticed yesterday that my calf has a pea sized lump on it. Could it be a result of me pulling, slight tear of the muscle? Probably need to see a physio.

Want to commend this but can’t help but wonder… Considering how much you dislike/struggle with the IMUK course and scared of descending, is this the best training approach? Nevermind opening the can of worms of the time/distance this far out from race day vs improving speed.

Probably should have just given a kudos, if nothing else but for the dedication.

Yep
I’m an awful descender!
I’m hoping to be bad … by July…

Going out in the wet really doesn’t help me.

I actually started getting my bike ready then it went black and rain/ sleet… ish.

I’m very very time rich and the average hr was a lot lower than the last time I did it… so some Improvement.

By Friday it never happened

I’ll probably defer Bolton and do outlaw at this rate…

Horses for courses.

After driving the course, it seems okay.
I’ve yet to cycle it…I reserve the right to change my mind after two laps!

When your ā€œlong runā€ of 90 minutes at a given HR comes out at 4:53/km, including 9 minutes (900m) of walking for this HR

It will be the third lap we’re it starts to bite…

But taper
The right training
No traffic
And the other 2000 tri antelopes might make it seem easier.

Possibly riding it the weekend, if the weather is as bad as the forecast were running…!

I feel I could master the sheephouse descent, pick up bank used to terrify me…!

14km spilt run today. 6km early doors and 8km just now. approx 5.25 pace.

VO2 set on the trainer today… 2,3,4,3,2 mins at 120% FTP on 2 mins recovery.

Swim this evening… another set of 100’s with the pull bouy left at home…

I must proper hate myself. :joy:

The saddles on those type of bikes are normally horrendous too. I can’t fathom the will to do this!

Race skin tri shorts
L d pad…

Assos cream.

Yep the saddles are a PITA for sure.

Going to do it with a fan… in 4 weeks time to see what difference it makes…?!

Bit of a sick experiment…!

I actually like it, mentally challenging

Very inconveniently, our local track is being ripped up so that a new one can be layed for an international athletics competition in the summer (The old one is absolutely perfect and by far the best I have ever run on!). So Intervals now take place in the next town, which is 6km away

A normal person would have taken the train, or driven, or even cycled there… however, I decided to run, in heavy snow. As a side note, Nike VF 4% are not good in snow!

At the track had an interesting set, 5 mins warm up, 5 mins at 4:30/km, 16 x 200 @ 3:40 then 100 recovery, 10 mins @ 4:30 - total set 9.5km

Finally 6km run home. Total distance 21.5 km , time 1h45m, so a half Marathon, with intervals. Very pleased that my HR was 141, only mid Zone 2

Felt really good, and strangely didn’t result in too much fatigue

Good session there Matt. But I wouldn’t read too much into the avg hr of the whole session like that. I think the more important indicator would be the avg hr of those two tempo sets either side of the intervals. If they’re broadly similar, then that would be a really good sign of recovery from the quick intervals.
