My point is about not being able walk for a few days, and then only lighty jog (not run normally) for a week is an indicator of poor acute recovery. Its just the early part of the recovery.
I commented on running again because that was what was mentioned, if muscle soreness, range of motion, muscle strenght etc had been mentioned I would have commented on that.
Anyway we agree.
I still would not be able to run two days after a 44km. Maybe if I walked it.
I have the Gin Pit Marathon weekend in 4 weeks - marathon on Saturday and a marathon on Sunday - might not do the Sunday as I have the South Downs Way 50 mile event the weekend after
I guess itâs more about pacing (never that fast to begin with). I once did both days sub 4 but with SDW50 so soon afterwards I want to keep a bit in the tank. All training runs for TP100 and SDW100 later this year
As @tunster says pacing is key, but you also get used to it, it is partly training and partly mental. On multiday ultras it may take some mental effort to get going, I need to spend some time warming up, perhaps starting with a walk, then after a few minutes I can jog gently, then after a while I can run (albeit slowly). Good rest and refuelling help, Iâm not a big one for massage or stretching, but seems to work for some.
I skipped that and stayed on the flat as it was an endurance ride, but agree it is a sketchy descent and if there is a car/and or submerged potholes waiting at the bottom itâs even more so.
View felt great, if there had been somewhere to sit Iâd have taken fifteen or more.
When I signed up in October I was around 3h24 - 3h25 form. I entered because I thought I could build from there and maybe with a perfect prep get under 3h20.
However, I got a nasty virus around 18th Nov, lasted over a week, was okay for a few days and then got another virus which I now suspect was covid. That was a month gone. When I started training again my calf didnât like it so another dodgy 2 wks.
Long story short, Jan I couldnât even run a 4:50 km. Slower than my planned pace even though 42th of a Marathon.
Revised target About 3 hours 30
Not sure if to send it, or hold back a bit as I have Outlaw Notts half three weeks later. Although currently I love running and hate the bike and swim so not really any point holding back. Notts will just be for fun.
Today i ran 3km; first run for nearly 3 weeks when my calf went pop. Seemed ok but feel very tight around achilles going up hill. Think i need to work on mobility
Thursday 6th March 45 minutes, easy endurance, was going to be an hour but a windows update, delayed me 5 - 10 minutes so had to cut it short
15km Regenerative / Recovery, M Pace +60 - 75 sec ~ 5:49 min/km
Friday 7th March First outdoor ride since 13th July 2024, 2.1km ~25kmph, lol. It was just a test ride as I have a new to me bike, fitted a longer stem.
15km Extensive Endurance Run with 5x 100 meter strides
ran this ignoring the pacing, drifting along day dreaming, end up 5:12 min/km.
Hope that doesnât bite in the next few days.
