Training - What Training?!

Over 11 hours this week but mostly based around the run yesterday, only other running was an easy 10K & 2K brick run.

Little bit down on cycling but two rides outside, had a very easy recovery 75 minutes tonight.

Swimming was just over 90 minutes as well. Have managed to fit in some double days with the swimming but mostly easy stuff.

If the forecast holds I’ll hopefully get a couple of evening rides in, knee is a bit sore today, probably a tight quad that I’ll work on so will avoid running for a couple of days.

I’m totally shagged.

A giant IM sack on my back with the kitchen sink in it, and I still forgot my pants - had to wear my trunks instead all day

Thank you.

It is a bit frustrating I’m only just back to where I was when I signed up to the marathon in October. I couldn’t do any more, and have learnt a lot, so I’m happy.

A few weeks remaining. I enjoy the journey more than the event, that’s one day when things can go well or not, and sometimes its out of ones control, weather etc. Just preparing the best I can.

Yesterday afternoon I decided to get my road bike down from the bungy straps that were holding it from the ceiling of the garage. Gave it a bit of a clean, spray, check the gears, brakes and oil the chain….

This morning I went out in it. First time since September 2022! The roads are just as crap as usual and my old school 23mm tyres (pumped them to 100psi rather than the 115+ that I used to) ensured that I rattled over every pothole and crack in the road.

Lovely weather though and 20 miles ticked off. I may have to make a habit of this during the summer months…

Steady on, you’ll be tempted to do one of those triathlons at this rate and then we’ll have to block you from the site :joy:

Bigger tyres do seem more comfortable for Uk roads.

It is about time that I finally caught up on this thread…

January 2025
Swim – 10.3km / Bike – 395km / Run - 60km / Time – 26h 30m
Overall – A steady start to the year, ended with no training at all at the end of the month. As life got in the way and I stayed at 3 different hotels in the space of 4 nights (Birmingham for work, then back home, then the Cotswolds for a funeral and then Bristol to visit my daughter.

February 2025
Swim – 5.2km / Bike – 291km / Run - 32km / Time – 16h 34m
Overall – With only 28 days in the month, it didn’t help that I did no training whatsoever on 11 of them! :frowning: This was due to a combination of work stress and short trips away.

March 2025
Swim – 17.7km / Bike – 504km / Run - 67km / Time – 35h 13m
Overall – Started well, with my first 10 hour week of the year and first since May24. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: But within two weeks that was down to 4 hours, as my DIY/Garden ‘ultra’ took its toll. Given that 35 hours is still enough to make my Top 10 monthly totals since 2014 I’m calling that a good month. Also, in terms of stats, this was my biggest swimming month since 2012! :scream:

April Plans
I’m not sure what we are doing for Easter yet, but I am definitely away the next two weekends, so this will be another month of trying to work training around life and I’m OK with that.

The good news is I always get a small boost seeing training kit drying in the sun shine.
(Which is hopefully a sign that the worst of the winter is behind us. )

Cheers, Paul.

He’s joining the dark side … don’t bother doing run mileage before a marathon. Then do some tri’s with no swim training. It’ll all be fine in the end!

I may write a book and get a big insta following!
