Training - What Training?!

A second run this week. That’s 25% of my 2025 runs completed in the last 3 days! :joy: (by number of runs, not volume luckily).

Pretty chilly, but a glorious morning run along the seafront and then up and down the river/estuary. So much wildlife everywhere. Sun just rising toward the end. Mist meandering down the river. Perfect.

Whilst my body isn’t exactly bouncing along on these runs, I’m very much enjoying them mentally!

Deffo happier and conversely have more energy now I’m just getting out of bed straightaway at 6/630 rather than snoozing away.

Kept up with stretching every day so far as well.

I’ve been back out on the road bike again. MrsF was off work today and meeting a friend for lunch (about 45 miles away). I tagged a lift for the first 30 miles or so along with my road bike in the boot. I’d planned a route home on minor roads and had a lovely time. Just over 32.5 miles and my longest (in time and distance) ride for a very long time.

Intervals.icu says that my current ‘form’ is ‘high risk’ so I think I’ll take it easy tomorrow and go for a long run Saturday/Sunday.

I’m enjoying the road bike once again and think I’ll probably stick with it occasionally over the dry summer months. When it starts to get cold I’ll move back indoors for cycling, but for now I quite getting out when the weather is good.

:man_running: 2025•89 - Regenerative 8km

Very easy around the nature reserve and cows, on grass in the sun, not a cloud in the sky. Good for the body and mind.

I think one cow was giving me evils :smiling_face_with_horns: It seemed to going out of its way to stare at me.

Nice evening ride in the sun, lovely and warm but still had a thick merino L\S top on

Spotted a sparrowhawk on a hedge that had its eye on a pigeon for its tea, I stopped to try and get my camera out but it moved too quickly. Anyway, the pigeon was one step ahead and had spotted it and did a runner :joy: still got a nice aerial display from the hawk though:slightly_smiling_face:

30 easy minutes on the turbo followed by a family meal in Pizza Express straight into the club swim. Could feel the taste of pizza in my mouth the whole swim.

First time this year starting in daylight (missed last weeks swims)

That’s how progressive overload works right? Just keep adding 10-15% per run :joy:

In all seriousness, another gorgeous morning on the river. Really enjoying this recapture of my mornings at the moment. As you may have guessed I’m a total wildlife nerd, so these runs are absolute heaven for me.

Highlights were seeing a kingfisher and hearing 2 or 3 Cetti’s Warblers (back from their winter migration). Got me very excited. The Mrs less so when I was telling her on my return!:grin: At least my eldest daughter paid me some attention and was interested to hear!

Right .. obviously training based .. ish

My running training partner is obsessed with vo2 max ?!?
A very fit guy
60 in 18? Months time
Ran a 1:30 half marathon in Spain 2 weeks ago
20 min park run .. ish
Targeting 19 mins this year flat, fast 5 k.

Interested to hear people’s views on this .?!?
He has had the lab stuff ( he’s loaded ) but this is a garmin watch guesstimate ?
Go easy he’s a nice fella
Thoughts ?

Garmin’s regarded as a pretty good estimate up to 5-7% inaccurate. It does need good data; heart rate, gps pace and I think zones have to be set up correctly and 69 seems a bit high but your man is clearly very fit whatever his age.

Mrs T now has the same VO2 max as me according to our respective Garmins

Don’t know whether to be afraid or proud

If he’s a trained runner and he’s hitting 19-20 mins for 5km his VO2max is likely closer to 50 ml/kg/min.

I don’t know exactly how the algorithm works, but if some bad HR or pace data gets in there suspect it can throw off the calcs.

Who would win ?
I know you’re a nice fella but we are looking for honesty here ?
