Training - What Training?!

40km ride this evening. I was feeling quite ‘meh’ and just needed to get out the house. Glad
I did as it was a beautiful evening with quiet roads.

June 2025

Swim – 25.1km :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
I made all 9 x club weekend sessions, making this my biggest swimming month since 2012!
As the graph below shows, 2025 is already higher than my annual totals for the last 12 years!

Note – I am still a LOT slower than I used to be, but this is a big step in the right direction.

Bike – 820km :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
My biggest month of 2025 and my 4th biggest monthly bike total since 2014 at least.
Managed to get on my (exercise) bike 25/30 days in June, which really made a difference.

Run - 79km
As always, I am frustrated that my run totals are not higher.
(Linked to my preference to run in the morning, but my regular inability to get out of bed!)
Still, this is my biggest total of 2025 (by just a few hundred metres  ).
And my 7th highest month since 2014, which confirms it has been a long time since I ran well.

This photo is actually from May, but I got caught out running in the rain in June too.

Time – 50h 23m :scream:  :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
By far, my biggest training month of 2025 and any year since 2012, at least.
Definitely channelling @APM with a total of 18 x double training days in June.
This really is ‘little & often’ adding up, as no bike session > 1h 50m, or run > 55min.

Weights
Not included in the training time above is another 2 hours of weights.
Again, not much, but better than nothing and something to build on.

Overall
I’ve mentioned this before, but all my digital training records before 2014 were ‘lost’.
So, part of me would really like to see how Jun.25 stacks up against my previous peak training.
However, I need to stop comparing my 60 year old self with a younger 44 year old version!

As my peak TT1.0 was 6 months from Jan. to Jun.09, preparing for ‘A Day In The Lakes’:
Swim = 148km, Bike = 2,304km, Run = 476 km
With biggest individual sessions being around S - 4.5km, Bike – 100km & Run – 21km.

Whereas, my worst Post TT1.0 / Pre TT2.0 was the 3 years from 2016 to 2018 totalling:
Swim = 25km, Bike = 1,363km, Run = 162 km

Despite no individual big (for me) sessions, my totals for first 6 months of 2025:
Swim = 80km, Bike = 3,111km, Run = 384 km

For me, the correct comparisons to make is today vs. my training ‘wilderness’ years.

Which makes me very happy with the level of consistent training I’m doing these days. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Cheers, Paul.

Just got to say how much I love the forensic level of detail in your posts @Paul_L

Are you by any chance an accountant?

Tuesday 1st July…

Nice after a 2:45am alarm clock and travel.

Surprisingly relaxing… (‘real PRs’?, as in I have ran those trails probably 12 times)

Caught up with me early evening or was that the four beers and a small glass of wine.

A bit further… a bit of panic sent in when with 2km back to base I realised I had no water, empty pouch, whoops!

Dawned on me when I passed a woman someway in to the run who was carrying a flask.

Didnt see anyone for 90% of that run (saw a few on bikes and running yesterday)

A bit hotter today 32-33C

Turned out okay though.

PS normal Z2 pace threshold HR… trails and heat will do that * and no water…

Love running around here. Took about an hour to cool down from.

15:30 now… dip in the pool and a :beer_mug: :clinking_beer_mugs: why not?

Tuesday 6k easy run and 2*4k bike commutes
Wednesday 6k easy run and 30k bike ride

Think my ankle is pretty much healed and I should try some longer or harder runs.

Swam this morning, the pool was empty, it was great.

No work so swam again this afternoon, it was full of kids messing around, which is fair enough but I’m probably on a police wanted list because I clobbered a few.

Then a steady farewell run with the guy who has become my main training buddy out here.

Quite like this mysterious body battery thing Garmin does. Don’t quite understand what it means but intuitively feels about right, at 33% and sitting in the airport lounge 3 Buds in I’m pretty tired & wouldn’t voluntarily be getting involved in an Irish jig for example.

Good work @fruit_thief, that’s a big training day!

Gym first thing.
2 sets each of 750m row, bench press, Arnold standing press, bicep curls, weighted bridges, sumo squats and calf raises.

Apparently I kicked something last night… a step… bad enough to mention at the time not enough to clearly remember it might be an issue.

Tonight, swim. 5 x 300, resting 1:00. Average 1:44/100.

First swim in 3 weeks, mind.
