We met the outlaws for morning coffee today in Blandford Forum and I ran back, 31km mostly off road.

It’s something I have wanted to do for years but never got round to.

Everything was going fine for the first 20km and then suddenly ascending a gentle hill I felt my right calf go again. (@APM I know, I know :see_no_evil_monkey:). Not as bad as 3 weeks ago, but enough to make me slow down and really shorten my stride.

The next 11km were spent shuffling like an octogenarian, but I made it home.

Was up against a hard deadline as the Tesco’s man was bringing stuff at 3.20pm. No phone, wife out doing other stuff… that added a certain frisson but I got back at 3.15

Knackered now, definitely not built for distance & confirms my feeling that 21km is a sensible limit!

The first half of your 2026 will be spent on a physio bed and doing calf raises, Fruity.

Anyway, gym this morning. First time in 2 weeks!

Rowing, shoulders and glutes.

He was doing mile repeats the other day unless I am mistaken.

Honestly yesterday morning it felt 100%, to the point I hadn’t even considered it might flare up again during the run.

I think it’s only a small muscle strain, although admittedly seems to be trying quite hard to turn it into a big one. Will take it easy for a while longer :+1:

18km with 700m of vert with Mrs T and the dog Around Macclesfield Forest

Included going up ā€œthe Matterhorn of Cheshireā€ - Shutlingsloe - seems to be slightly overegging it somewhat given the actual Matterhorn is 4km higher - it’s slightly Toblerone shaped though I suppose

beautiful day

not sure if the road sign was a reference to very lethargic pheasants or not

Pretty poor week for me, but the race yesterday, recovery and travel from last Sunday means more recovery is probably better and my watch has been insisting I’m strained for a while

I did manage the reps on Wednesday and a few short bikes as well, but swimming is pretty much dead to me until around April next year

Not racing next weekend so will see how I’m feeling.

Was a de-load week but came down with illness.
Two days sick where I just went for a gentle walks, four walks over the week of about 26-27 minutes each, hence the 1h41 other (walking.)

:man_biking: 7h15 — all easy
:man_running:x1 – 13.2 km 70-minutes

Surprising that the weekly total added up to 10 hours.

Had a cracker today. Didn’t do my long ride over the weekend as was feeling tired from being a bit ill last week. Decided weather today looked good, so would set off 7am at 9 degrees C, back 11am when it would be 13C, as I’d got things to do later.

Got my mid weight jacket on, toe covers, full finger gloves, leg warmers. Thinking I’ll be a bit warm, but can always take the leg warmers off later. Was fine temp setting off, clear blue sky and sunny.

Set off and noticed pretty soon I was at least 10% down on normal power. Spent 25mins gradually climbing, and sweating buckets, but not feeling overly hot. Got to Fox House, down towards Hathersage and noticed there was a cloud inversion. Thought it’s going to get a bit chilly. Should have followed the sunshine at that point.

Rode through to Castleton gradually getting colder. It wasn’t chilly, it was really cold, grey and misty. Putting more effort in to try to keep warm made me sweat more, travel faster, but not get any warmer. Fingers freezing, I thought at least when I get to Winnats Pass, I’ll warm up, hopefully passing back above the cloud and into warmth. But then there’s another 30mins or more still down round in the cold to head back in a homeward direction, before I hit more hills to warm up.

Stopped at the bottom of Winnats, realised it was a bad idea to carry on and headed back into Castleton.

Felt terrible, freezing cold, not right at all. Could have made it the hour or so back, but would have been an unpleasant situation. So found a coffee shop and had to get the wife to come out to get me!

Car was reading 3 degrees when she picked me up, no wonder I was cold! Think I’ll give it a bit more time to get over the illness this week before venturing too far from home.
