Training - What Training?!

Only went to a blimmin gym didn’t I! Was weirdly a bit nervous, as it’s not my natural environment whatsoever. Have a basic programme a mate built for me, but still didn’t feel confident enough to hit the free weights up. Have sucked down my ego and am going to do one of the sessions with the staff at the puregym to go through lifting for beginners and i’ll pick it up from there.

I did actually quite enjoy myself though. It’s nice to have a bit of variety. Gonna make the most out of that step machine this winter as well to prepare for a big race I have in mind next year.

  • 5 mins row - 1197m
  • 5 mins stretch
  • 3 x 12 trx row (tricep variant)
  • 3 x 12 ea single leg glute bridges
  • 5 x 40m 24kgs kettlebell farmers walk (30 r)
  • 3 x 12 ea step ups on 20 box
  • 3 x 5 wide arm pull ups
  • 5 mins @ level 10 stepper - 24 flights

Was a really relaxing way to start the day. 07:00 Sunrays coming through the window. Flask of hot coffee. Still in my PJs.

I have to look all the moves up as I genuinely don’t know what they are.

That farmers walk started to burn on the 4th and 5th rep. That gave me the tiniest snippet into you gym/hyrox type folk’s lives!

My trial is coming to an end, I don’t know if I’m going to continue or not.

On one hand it’s pretty fun and they’re a nice group. On the other, yikes it’s hard and I don’t know if I’ll commit enough to get through the pain.

Trained twice today, not bad as I think I’m getting a cold.

First thing, 4.9km run. 70m elevation. 21:19.

12k trail run for me, one of my regular routes, probably going to have to be a bit more organised in 2-3 weeks if I want to do it again or dig the headtorch out.

Also did a few leg strength exercises in the gym after, think I need to work on my quads and hamstrings etc., now I’m cycling less and swimming is dead to me I’ll try and get in a few times a week.

Had to go into the office today, so woke up at 5, did the girls packed lunches and head on up to the gym before I drove up. Quite enjoying myself at the moment, though it feels like i’m just making it all up as I go along! Will spend some time getting used to it and then start following something a bit more planned.

  • Leg press 3 x 6 - 73kg, 86kg, 100kg (last one was tough, others pretty easy)
  • 3 x 5 wide arm pullups (tired after the row and Wed gym, found it harder than normal)
  • 3 x 10 tricep pull downs standing 15.8kgs
  • 3 x 10 single leg step ups, 10kg dumbell in ea hand, 20 box - focus on glute activation
  • 3 x 5 lat pulldown - 59kgs
  • 8 mins @ level 11 stepper - 41 flights
  • 2 mins stretch
