“Owen" - a colleagues friend. Colleague has taken the day off to go see him. And just dot watching and thinking how nuts the BGR is. Then in -10⁰ ISH sort of makes me feel a teensy weensy bit “inspired”
Easier in -10C, still conditions with frozen ground than +10C in mud and wind and rain?
Deffo underfoot. Guess it depends on how well you cope with the cold.
Can mask things like appetite and dehydration if you’re not careful.
Would surely help in the daytime sections with those glorious views though vs. constant, miserable grey clag.
Trained twice today.
30 minute spin class first thing.
2k swim tonight, average 1:42/100.
25 minute tempo run.
And buggered up my calf. Again. So just an 8km walk on the Blundellsands dunes today. Pub lunch, now home by the fire ![]()

7km 5:14 min/km progression run, final km a relaxed 4:29
Good to be back. Hopefully back from the lurgy… no more this year thanks (or until this time next year
)
8km run. Ok, until I tweaked my left hammy. Hopefully nothing that a bit of massaging and stretching can’t fix.
2hr15m virtual Cotswolds Classic route on TPV 81.53km
6km 5:09 min/km
Club swim ~ 1400-1500m
Gym first thing.
True to my all-or-nothing nature, the last two months have been pretty much - nothing…
This week things finally shifted. Knocked out 5 solid runs, each 5.6 miles, and made sure to include some nasty inclines to wake the legs (and the mojo) back up.
Even bigger shift: stopped drinking completely. Feeling clearer already.
Onward.
Managed club swims two days in a row for the first time in forever!
I went for a 9K walk\hike over the moors on the NYD fell race route, it was pretty sloppy and boggy in places, not sure if it was a good idea, slipped a couple of times but no huge pain, groin still sore when it plays up.
I have done a couple of upper body gym sessions this week as well.
Pretty standard week last week, but missed two sessions due to life stuff
2 swims, 4 turbos, 3 runs (all treadmill) - 9hrs 20mins
Slight progress in the pool this morning.
27 x 100m off 2:00 but intervals were around 1-1.5s quicker than last few weeks.
Followed up with 800m pull and paddles
Went for a yog.
Calf hurt a bit. But I liked the activity.
The end.
Talk to me. What have you done to your calf? Gastro or Soleus? Grade?
40 minute easy run for me.
Dunno. It’s the base of it where it goes to the Achilles. Just keeps going super tight and painful. Only on cold mornings. Then just doesn’t get better. As I’ve two dogs to walk. And quite like a jog, even when I know I shouldn’t.
Probably the Soleus then.
Gastroc is normally deeper and at the head, closer to the knee. But as always I know f all…
@APM will probably confirm
I now have a pain in my achilles after breaking sharply for some twat cross the road in black, spoted white trainers at the last moment, I didnt give way once I knew they’d stopped.
Sounds like soleus. A couple of mine feel like Achilles problems, but actually the soleus.
Physio for you, @Poet, good Sir.
