Oh, but if people are old school and upload everything manually once a week, then you miss what they’ve been up to
There is an option to favourite people if you wish and their activities will show on your feed regardless.
*there is another guy in our club who on a Friday evening/Saturday morning uploads his weeks worth of workouts. Just a bit annoying
interestingly, the text on the Strava website says, ‘order chronologically by when they were uploaded’… subtle, but potentially important difference… I wonder??
Mine says “Ordered chronologically by when new activities are finished”
ETA - that’s in settings on the app, not the website.
So that was a completely ego deflating session.
Had the intention of heading out over to Exmouth, about 7km, then 5km TT and jog home. Was bloody windy again and i had to wade through an ankle deep flood to get there, which wasn’t ideal. Heavy, squelchy shoes and socks.
Anyway, off I go, the first km is quick for the first half until i turn into the wind. Then i really feel i’m struggling already. 2nd km all into cross/headwind and i can feel my legs have no power in them whatsoever. I turn for km 3 and i’m shot already. I hang on and try to run with that slight tail, but mainly cross wind but i’m dying a thousand deaths and barely holding 3.50. I pull the plug after the 3rd km beeps, deflated with my legs just feeling weak and pathetic. I plan to recover for a km, then go again. But i decide to cut that to 500m and blow the legs out for a km. Covered that in 3.25, not far off max effort. I was blown. My how i have fallen!!
So turns out that 50-60km per week at 4.50 gets you comfortable running again, but that speed endurance has most definitely not returned in the slightest! Like i said, pretty sobering.
Time to start building some focussed intervals into the weekly diet. It’s hard to knwo what paces to use, as i’m miles away from where i was. But this session has at keast given me an, albeit hard to swallow, point to start from.
Onwards and upwards as they say
But surely all the external factors made it a shitty run from step 1
Don’t be so hard on yourself
Well yes and no. They didn’t help, but i didn’t want to give over to excuses.
I just need to accept i am not where i was a year or two ago, and get over the little dent in the ego to set my intervals etc at a level that would previously have been pretty easy running.
Yes and no.
I have the music playing which helps with both focus and stroke rate.
Also, by bring on my own, I don’t have to worry about the pace/lack of pacing of others that might be in a club session.
My old club lane was full of guys that would do under 40 for the first 50m and then die, whereas I can pace myself pretty consistently
I’m a bitter man
Everybody has a bad GB, could be tired etc. and the conditions won’t have helped.
Have another go in a few days and see if you’ve progressed.
Once a month I have to chair 4 supplier governance meetings, they are 1.5hrs each. I always try and synch this as a rest day but I had Sunday as a rest day this week.
I could have gone to the gym after work and get home late, I could have run in the dark. I could have done a lot of things but my head is in 100 different directions.
So I did nothing.
You have all day tomorrow untouched… and the day after… and th…
Enjoy
Rest up
It’s nearly the weekend!!
You’re under a lot of unwanted pressure Fatpom. Be kind to yourself, and don’t sweat it.
Thanks guys. I feel like I’m coping with the redundancy ok, but at the moment, I’m stuck in that horrible timeframe of still lots to do at work, and winding up personal things like phones and pension, handover etc. Plus it’s nearly end of financial year.
There are a lot of things demanding my attention and right now, rest seems like the better option.
That makes me injured just looking at it
Mixed week for me so far, Tuesday’s reps felt really unpleasant but the cold air probably didn’t help, and I’d swam at dinnertime.
Managed 2*20 @280W tonight and a 3k brick, as well as a swim at dinnertime. It was hard work but not to the point of giving up.
Hoping to do a longer ride outdoors and run over the weekend, but need to avoid too much Guinness tomorrow night
Jeff
Just seen that Jeff. Nice run off
After the recent conversation about sauna’s, interesting article, some of which a few here have said.
Excellent article, thanks
