The wind is awful here this morning, howling around the house and the trees are bent sideways. Struggling with motivation today because of it.

Well I got out for a for a 13km run. It wasn’t as bleak as I expected in the end, I managed to find some semi-sheltered stretches to run up and down and round.

I did turn around twice though after running for one or two minutes into a block headwind. F this, turn around.

Legs a bit sore from yesterdays threshold efforts 6x 3-minutes.

Today 13.3km the middle 8km was about 85% of 5km pace (ended up 4:47 min/km, I wouldn’t have wanted to do more than another couple of kms at that pace today), as an estimate probably between Marathon and Half Marathon pace.

Session on paper (not on paper, lol)

Seasons best 10km in there 48:34

Whole session ended up being 13.31km – 4:59 /km

Easy bike indoors in a bit.

The wind is still howling out there.

75 minutes easy on the indoor bike, it felt like forever today, still, job done.

Been full of a chesty man-flu this week. Shouldn’t have swam on Wed morning & definitely shouldn’t have Parkrunned on Sat which resulted in this downward spiral of doom.

Tired this evening from the drive back from Scotland so shall sack off this evening’s club swim & hopefully a couple of restful days will allow me to pick things up next week.

This week’s stats…

1hr 45 min easy on the bike… boring.

As per the injury thread I’ve had a fairly poor week in total, albeit two decent sessions that were a bit of a waste! Just about managed 6 hours with the gym sessions but a quarter was my hike today.

I’m away for a few days at the end of next week so will actually get a bit of walking in which is actually decent addition to any training. I might have to consider swimming if the leg doesn’t improve though!!!

Only 5h10 here this week. Lazy toad. 3 runs and 4 Zwifts.

22h so far in 25 days of January, falling behing the 1h per day target.

Ten hours

Much more cardio than in recent weeks

Had a big speech ready for my HYROX partner when he returned on weds from Thailand

All about how I had no interest in running, hyrox or going back down to 11 stone and racing this year .. 3 hyrox sessions later my legs are killing me !

He never heard the “speech”

We are what we are I guess.

Found myself struggling over the weekend with both motivation and actually getting it done.

Been hacking Tour de Zwift by doing the routes as workouts, so 2 long ones Saturday, one long and one medium yesterday.

Have clocked up close to 51 hours in the last 4 weeks, so probably need a little break.

Am doing an event at Pinewood Friday and Saturday, so will take Sunday off as well to recharge.

Struggling with a mental block about training outside as well, so built up some mental toughness by doing 1hr 40min on the treadmill this morning.

Did have to switch after 90 minutes as despite putting a towel over the screen, still managed to break it and it just stopped

HR pretty consistent with only a small drift

No consolation but I can’t face it much either, certainly not cycling but have done some running or the hiking outside.

If the weather improves I’ll get the bike out but the immediate forecast isn’t good.

I’m quite happy with how January has gone so far. Put in another ~4hr week and no obvious signs of struggle from the back. It’s achey, but no nerve pains.

Have been deliberately avoiding the hills and technical trails until everything is a bit stronger in that lumbar region. Will look to dial up the S&C work on it next week - moving from bodyweight to weights.

Did run a bit longer last night and comfortably ran just under 15.5kms. Easy, mostly flat tarmac. Have been running 100% on feel this month, only looking at the watch when I finish. Felt like I could’ve easily run further which is a good sign.

Gym sessions have been predominantly cardio stuff, so I think that’s deffo helping.

Fingers crossed things continue in this manner! T minus 82 days!
