So after ignoring the Garmin and doing threshold run repetitions, I ended up leaving work yesterday ill. Headache, blocked ears, sore throat
Midday nap for an hour and a good nights sleep and feeling great today, in fact the best in 10 days.

2026•30 - 10 km easy progressing to moderate
Was hoping to miss the down pour but no, got soaked… freezing after I finished, would have been 13km with strides if hadnt got soaked (and it got dark, I hadnt took lights)
Sounds similar to my experience, I was going to cut a few kms but still finish some strides but then realised that with cold wet legs that wasnt a good idea… definitely extra tightness due to the wet and wind.
I think there may be a couple of things going on, but nerves could well be a seriously contributing factor. Just reading up about nerve dermatomes right now!
I’ve got a half decent app called trigger points which helps me think up all kinds of aches and pains just a bit easier than searching dr google.
I get similar issues that I think are nerve related and maybe getting compressed or something, the physio said that’s what he thinks is happening in the hamstring and it sounds very like sciatica.
Also seem predisposed to tight muscles, noticed the calf is pretty tight in places and probably causing issues into the foot and knee. Not sure if it comes from years of football.
Similar for me with the sports, not to mention years as a kid hurting myself on my bmx etc
I remember the hamstring being a problem since I did Wimbleball 70.3 which was probably 13 years ago at least, and it could have been a problem before that. Also the groin which pretty much stopped me playing football.
We were running on a lane through a valley and there were a whole bunch of country types in the field on the right bank shooting pheasants, as they flew out from bushes on the left.
It was like the O.K. Corrall
At one stage someone shot a pheasant out of the sky right above our heads and it fell in the hedge about 6 feet away from my left shoulder.
I really can’t believe this is allowed in the UK in 2026
Plenty of pheasant road kill around these parts in the summer, and regularly cycle passed people on country lanes waving white rags in the air. Which I think means ‘Stop shooting while I’m in range’, but could just mean ‘Bonus points this way’.
Anecdotally there’s a lot more shot than eaten by the shooters. Works out well for a friend of mine who knows his local game-keeper (if that’s the right term) and is well stocked on leftover Pheasants during the season.
