Training - What Training?!

Also…mad. The long runs at this part of the year, cold, wet, dark are miserable.

I’ve an Edinburgh Marathon entry you can have for nowt as I’ll not be needing it?

Is that serious, coz I would be interested.

I have an entry I don’t need. I entered before I got this Dubai job. I’d kind of forgotten about it TBH. It would be nice to have it used by a Tritalker. Transfer window is open. PM me if you want it (they charge a £20.75 transfer fee to the new runner).

Too much travel for me for a Marathon, otherwise I would have said yes.

Sounds like Buzz might go for it.

:man_biking: 90 minutes easy.

Not sure I’ll get a run in, howling a gale and very wet.

Probably just as well as when I stepped out of the shower my lower back muscles went into spasm and now it feels like I have a sprained lower back.

Feeling better than earlier today, I’m just hoping it gets better and not worse over night.

Ive been lucky so far, the only time I got soaked was an easy 11km so I can cope with that. Not looking good the next few days though.

I’m in much better shape than I was this time last year, about 5s per KM and I ended up running 3h29m46 last year (sure it would have been about 3hr24/25 on a cooler day, it was ridiculously hot.)

Ive done 1h30 for a half and 3h44 for a full. Very bad conversion at full distance.

Yeah, that is way off.

Marathon is a different beast though.

What about 5km, 10km in regards to HM… are you comparatively quick.

Sounds like a massive performance jump in the full for you if you can unlock the key. What slows you down? Economy dropping, an increased requirement for Oxygen as muscles break down? Or something else?

Marathon 1 - blew up
Marathon 2 - really bad cramp, quads
Marathon 3 - executed to plan (3h55) but not fully trained.

Think I’ve got a good marathon in me, with it being London I’m keen to get the training in with lots of long runs.

Similar here, actually worse. 1h23 half v 4h44 full.

The main difference was trained for one, and not the other.

Lordy was I in a bad way after that basically untrained marathon, couldn’t walk downstairs for a week. You live and learn. Trained for the next one (2nd and last), 3h05.

Every time we drive 25 or so miles I think it’s a crazy distance to run.

Scientific Triathlon have done three episodes where they talk about their fav swim, bike and run sessions.

This has given a whole chunk on sessions to use.

Tonight was 8 x 4:00 at 95-100% with 1:20 recovery

Lovely. I recognise all those spots. I must have run hundreds of laps of the Meadows and Arthur’s Seat in my 20s.

Yeah it was cold and wet but really nice to run around. Shame I only had a little time, but it was enough to drag up distant memories of my previous visits.

Beautiful city really.

30mins in I was just feeling like opening up but I got a call that staff were ready to meet for dinner, turned into the hotel, started getting changed - then another message “can’t be arsed to wait, bye” ha ha.

Biked this lunch:

Not hard, bit of a drag the second interval.
