Just another hour on the bike. Possibly the windiest conditions I’ve ridden in for years. The 50 mph gusts were fun😬

Another Zwift Alpe climb, steady with 4x3min threshold intervals.

Nice 60km out in the glorious sunshine this morning. Came home to a roast dinner being served up as I came through the door.
Easy hour run planned once the sun goes down later!

6km trail run with LO. 45:12 at 7.31 pace.

It’s quicker without Mum!

After a weekend on the beers, managed a short 30 minutes in the gym.

Tomorrow mornings run should be fun…

17K trail run this morning, which was completely horrific, felt rubbish all the way and probably my slowest time on that route.

Putting it down to the heat, wind and long bike ride yesterday.

Yeah but I bet you’re still glad you did it?

Yes, shouldn’t have dehydrated myself though, it was warmer than I planned.

Other plus is that my knee seems to have survived.

11 hours.

Just about managed to keep it 80/20, ish, despite making some efforts for a much shorter race.

Highlights were a 20 min 5k, …8:22 500 m swim and riding fast outside in short bursts… very !

Not so good, is left hamstring, how out of breath I was after the 500 m swim and the length of the afore mentioned bursts.

Very very tired this week, getting old is crap sometimes …!

Kind of a recovery week, skipped a little cycling and weights

5k run this morning with mobility work before and after.

Bit of rehab for my calf. Tore it twice a few years ago, got a bit of pull back in June so building back up slowly.

Coming off a big week, I knew that last week was going to need a bit of recovery time, and that work would be a pig but it didn’t go to plan!

6km Wednesday
5km Friday
14km Saturday

And that was is. 3:47, 1,223m vert, 202TSS.

Going to try and get out on the bike at lunch today; I suspect I need to do something to ‘blow the cobwebs away’. Either that or I’m very mildly unwell. Not ‘sick’ by any means, but feel a bit like I would expect to feel if I went on a stag do one weekend and come Tuesday/Wednesday I no longer feel hungover as such but just a bit empty.

I seem to have spent the last few weeks constantly on the phone, email or webchats about anything and everything. A-levels, Direct Line cocked up house insurance, DPD coked up delivery of my son’s phone, bank cocked up his student account then 2 days solid with Curry’s/PC World about laptop. Everything I touch turns to sh1t at the moment and it’s made me really tired.
3 swims - 7000m - 2.5hrs (2 on same day again)
3 bikes - 78km - 3hrs
No running at all!
2 rows - 1hr.

I’ve now done more hours training in 2020 than I did in the whole of 2019

Reduced the intensity over the past 3 weeks or so. CTL now down to 135. I think my season is over now, so rest a bit and get ready for 2021

Do you think that’s partly because of less races to taper and recover from?

I’ve found that.

First swim in 6 months today. Thankfully they only have 30min sessions at the pool near the office. Started nice, no speed loss, but after about 50m my arms wanted to fall off and technique all over the place. 1100m total. Now to ride the fixie home feeling tired.

Absolutely this is part of it. But I also started the year with a much more structured plan. Also training for Triverest meant that I have done a lot more low intensity high volume rides and runs.

When I took my son back to the UK to go to university, I brought my Kayak back with me to Switzerland. Loving being on the water, I had also forgotten how hard Kayaking is on shoulders and arms, hopefully this will help me improve my upper body strength for swimming

Its 5 years since I last Kayaked. I was OK in white water, and reasonably competent at rolling. First time back in the boat I only made 2 out of 5 rolls, but seem to have got the knack back after a couple of practice sessions… off to find white water this autumn

I always think my swimming was better when I used to do some rowing sessions in the gym, even if it was only 10-20 minutes at a reasonable effort, it seemed to improve the strength on my upper body.
