Prepping for that KQ at IMUK well there @SidSnot
Going backwards.
2 weeks ago during a steady turbo session from out of nowhere knee pain starts.
Ran on it the next day. Great run but my knee was sore the next day, so Iāve had to ramp it down. Still aching now but seems to be improving. Had MCL strain on the knee 9 months ago but recovery went well and itās not bothered me since.,
Minor setbacks mate, ease off as required and donāt push through and undo the good work. Rehab is rarely linear.
Set the turbo up and my calf wasnt having it.
Went to the gym and put the seat on static down one notch.
Had to put it on a silly setting
Av cadence 98!
2 hour effort 140 av hr which is about right
Boiling hot no fan.
IMJ watts ⦠130?
11.5 hours in a week that can only be described as a disaster.
Bad news, are you going to see a physio?
Edit: 11.5 hours is a big week for me
Been to my massage girl.
Going again Thursday.
Itās improving, day by day, small steps I guess.
@Mungo2 11.5 hours is not a shit week
It is when you strain your calf so badly you walk with a limp.
I can swim, and bike with zero power.
Iāve done it before⦠10 weeks is pushing it to mend properly ( IMUK)
Just taking it day by day
@Mungo2, feel your pain. I have chronic problems in both calves, it will settle down in a few days, but running will be out for weeks. Still, you can swim, cycle and gym work.
Anyway⦠6 mile run this morning, 6:50 minute miles.
90mins on Zwift to make up for my dns at this morningās TT. First time using one of the pace partners for a fartleky effort.
Barring a bit of patio grouting in the places the jet washer obliterated, nothing today. Kept promising an evening run but had some āproper workā to do for a couple of hours. Itās the annual āgoals and PDPā merry go round, YAY!
Think Iāve got to about 9 hours this week, quite pleased with that.
4 bikes but only totalling ~140K, 2 were short recovery sessions and the Zwift TT on Thursday
3 runs but 1 was only a 2K brick, some treadmill reps and the trail run yesterday
4 swims, but barely 3K in total
Then a few weights, rowing, strength work etc. that isnāt included in the 9 hours.
Nothing for me today either bar some digging in the allotment and the usual chasing the kids on their bikes/carrying them etc etc. Which is actually pretty tiring.
Skipped my usual early morning Sunday slot to give Mrs GB a bit of a lie in. Was gonna go out this evening but I couldnāt be bothered. Was on a planned recovery week anyway, so all good.
Also ankle is sore after I stacked it on some gravel showing off on mini GBās tiny bike! Went down on my side very quickly and very hard. Idiot!
Still 6 hours for the week including S&C and yoga. Thatās fine as Iām feeling decent at the mo and got one hard zwift ttt in and yesterdayās medium effort 10km
8hours and 600 TSS this week, missed my long ride today so I might need to squeeze something in during the week.
Iām not going long this year and the furthest I will race will be MD Duathlon to qualify for ETU MD next year and any 50M TTs I can find. I take my hat off to all of you getting ready for IM with limited swim access.
No need - we are better prepared than 75% of a usual years field
From reading IMJ, I believe hardly anyone swims more than once, maybe twice per week.
And none of them are swimming until āThe Planā starts
But cheers!
I did all my IM prep on 2 x 40 min swims per week (3 on occasion but rare). OK, didnāt knock it out of the park being in the 1.20 range but didnāt drown either. Iām pretty good with sea conditions though.
I donāt advise it but it is possible. Iām a diesel swimmer though, rarely speed up or slow down due to conditions.
My only IM, swam ok off 1 swim per week. It was a tough 90 minute coached club session usually covering about 4.5km, at 7am every Saturday morning. After doing that for a couple of years I was (just) down below the hour. Would be a long way off now though.
Wow, thatās impressive. I remember joining Masters in Oz thinking Iād be in the middle group. (nope, couldnāt even keep up with the āslowā group) and back then I was closer to 1,50/100 LCM.
TBH, I donāt deal with the pool very well mentally. I seem to be always looking around, making sure Iām not in anybodyās way. Iām probably more suited to a squad session. Itās one of the reasons I loved the private pool at Winchester College but sessions had to be around when the boys were not using it and there was no coaching but it was rarely busy and everyone was very polite.
I fare better in a OWS situation as I tend to relax more (which is not conducive to improving speed).
