April makes it two poor training months in a row for me.
In addition to still working silly hours, I can now add two injuries to the excuses.
I slipped coming down the stairs and injured my wrist as I tried to break my fall.
(Could barely type for a while, let alone lift the lightest of weights.)
Then I did ‘something’ to my right knee, that left me walking with a limp for a few days.
(Eventually, gentle turbo sessions were OK & I started May with a short run. )
Plus the usual aches & pains that followed my hard labour in the garden too.
Apr.21 – Month
S – 0 km
B – 151 km
R – 13 km
The scary thing is that whilst my YTD stats are also poor…
Apr.21 – YTD
S – 0 km
B – 786 km
R – 125 km
This is actually my best start to a year since 2014!
Although, this clearly says more about how bad the previous years have been.
Still, Masters’ swimming re-starts this month, so that should be ‘interesting’.
Plus, I’m about to head out for my second early morning run of May.
(Which reminds me that my running had finally started to improve in Feb.)
Moi? Just done a @funkster and did 2.8km pull and paddles. Nowhere near as fast as him, like
Pool is meant to be three lanes of five people.
For some reason, there were 24 people in there today
Staff did naff all.
People obviously not booking.
Some guy in the fast Lane doing 1:25/100m thought the dividing black line was his and insisted on swimming on it no matter what.
After 45mins he got out, had a shower, then went back in for more.
Glutton.
Some people also thought doing breaststroke and kick in the fast Lane was a clever idea.
You’re swimming 1:35-1:40/100m free, so you obviously know you’re being utter tools.
I don’t care what your stupid set says, adjust it to the pool, divvies.
Anyhow, I managed an easy 1,000 strokes in the 45 minutes which propelled me 2,800m for a pace of 1:37/100m. (1:01:26 IM swim, which I’d be proper happy with for that minimal effort!)
5km runs on two consecutive early mornings now. Cardiovascular system struggling, but the main limiter is my dodgy ankle/Achilles. Will have to see how it goes.
Cheers
I’d do an hour now if I could.
I didn’t count this morning, just swam at what I thought would be a comfortable set.
Got a moderate run this evening (up a 400m hill, then 2km at tempo repeats - to simulate the hill out of Queens Park and then onto Chorley New Road at Bolton)
When you do your 90min turbo sessions. How do you do these? Are they just load up Zwift start riding, watch a movie and just see what numbers come out. Or do you do some sort of workout with ERG mode? Or something else?
I’d like to try something similar so was wondering what you do
If it’s just an aerobic Z1/2 ride, I’m just trying to keep the power/HR consistent, so will just load up Tempus Fugit and off I go. It’s rare for any of them to had a VI of anything more than 1.01
I could use ERG mode, but generally save that for hard intervals
I’ll switch between the TT position and the hoods, but will try to do as much as possible in the TT. Normally have a stand up / short sort out every 30 minutes,
It does help having another TV with a Firestick in to keep my brain occupied.
Managed 5 series of Line of Duty in just over 3 weeks
Would I better going outside for 90-120 minutes?
Who knows?
I also have multiple TVs/laptops so would be watching a TV series at the same time but concerned that I’d just tail off to tiny Watts if I’m not paying attention. On the treadmill, I like to just set the speed and then don’t have to think about running and can watch the TV which is why I thought of ERG mode and forget.
I glance up at the TV or have my phone with the companion open on a chair to see if I’m in the TT position to keep an eye on the watts. If anything mine creep up during the session
ERG mode would work, but I personally wouldn’t use it all the time as when you’re racing you’re not gonna be glued to your power display, so it’s good to learn how it feels
Also, I think my cadence/gearing and Tempus Fugit are so in tune now, I just tick along at that wattage, which could be a bad thing when I finally go outside
I thought I’d packed the turbo away for the summer but a hail storm just as I was getting ready meant it was pressed back into service. A quick wheel change (is there such a thing with horizontal dropouts?) and an hour in the shed in May FFS!
