Felt much better this morning, calf rehab t mill in full flow now 10.5 kph for an hour felt really nice av hr 123.

Then static bike balls to the wall effort.

Oh to follow @mungo2 …

Had a great few weeks training generally; discovered amongst other things that I do possess a decent swim kick, that my road bike has the biggest gel-paint chips on planet earth (or at least I hope they’re just gel paint…) and that the tri bike is the single greatest invention in history such is the fun in flying along in windy conditions…

Overall for May is about 800km cycling, about 80km running and 8km swimming, plus 5 karate sessions.

Not actually training for anything though. And not losing weight despite 6 weeks off the booze. I might be better off giving up crisps than alcohol? Anyway, tempted by a September Oly although weirdly dreaming of Hever gauntlet…No f’ing chance I’d get up those hills but clearly my psyche wants me to do something, anything…

This follows up on what I was talking about with Jeff and a few of the older guys on here some months ago, that was a positive post and a good bit of volume.

We put pressure on ourselves, to train, to enter races to perform even.

I used to love racing but training not so much, that seams to have flipped, we’re I’m almost scared to race in case I’m crap compared to previous results.

Let’s be honest, none of us really care wether other members of the forum come 1 st or 21 st in your age group.

As long as you enjoy your self, don’t damage the bling and go home safe to the family… the rest who cares?!?

I’ve have tried several times to discover my swim leg kick, I’m still looking.

Finished work at 4pm, Garmin started at 4:08pm…

Died at 87km, finished on my phone.
Would’ve tried harder to get to 30kmh average if I’d have known :see_no_evil:

Club run, nearly finished me off. It was supposed to be ā€œmove upā€ week to allow people from the lower group to move up which means the easier paces and routes for that group…Instead it was run at the level of the next group up. 6 miles at 9-9:30/mile was converted into 6.5 miles at 8:45/mile  I hit 8 min miles in places.:hot_face:

Great reply and something I’ve been pondering recently.

I really can’t get my head round swimming, I can plod but I know I’ll then be disappointed if\when I race, I have got a couple of triathlons entered and might enter a couple of shorter ones but struggling to get my head round them ATM.

Will probably stick to shorter running races for a couple of months and build towards a marathon later in the year.

I like to see people on here doing well, but at the end of the day getting home safe and well, moreso from training on the roads is more important. It’s just a hobby for us in reality.

Wise words both.

Agree & I think one of the great things about our hobby is that you can dip in and out of competition/racing as and when you want.

Been doing this sport for a while now & my approach to races like @Mungo2 is that they are nice, but not the most important thing.

Sometimes I like having a race or event to aim for, but not too often because there is an element of pressure that comes with that, and daily life often generates enough pressure.

What matters more to me is the functional fitness that comes with regular tri training, and simply enjoying the benefits that translate to other stuff like walking or DIY or gardening or whatever.

One experience that brought this home to me was about 2 years ago when hiking with some old friends. They have kept themselves pretty fit, probably fitter than most 45+ men, but do not exercise almost every day like a lot of us here do. We had to change our route because of a landslide and ended up hiking nearly 30km which was quite a bit further than planned, and we ended up about 5km down the valley from where we had left the car and it was going dark. One of the guys was pretty knackered, didn’t look like he could easily walk another 5km. So I offered to run to get the car and picked them up about 30 minutes later. I’m not saying this to willy wave, it was only a walk then a 25 minute 5km. No biggy to a lot of people here. But to my friends this was something highly weird. Posts like those above remind me not to take this for granted too much :+1:

Been a decent few days for me after seeing my arse with the weather on Friday, sacking of my ride & going home to pressure wash my patio :joy:

30km run on Sunday, 4k OW swim yesterday & a decent bike ride over some of my favourite roads in glorious weather today.

For the last few years I’ve been a trainer rather than a competitor, but I enjoyed getting dragged out to do Helvellyn last year, it was great to get the juices flowing.

That’s about ten times the elevation I did on my 200km ride :rofl::rofl:

I’ve always been a slow swimmer, the plus side is it’s staying we’re it’s always been… ish.

If I can hold this pace for the next 15 years I’ll be a fish… for the first time.

Yeah there’s certainly some shifters on here and it’s great to see the young guns putting the work in and if they get a great result that’s brill, if it doesn’t happen on that day … they will have plenty more chances I guess.

I’m in an unusual position we’re I know 35-40 people mostly now IRL a few virtually that I hope to meet soon doing IMUK, from Tom Rigby to people after every sec to beat the cut offs.

Not sure if this pressures me or not, as you say this is a hobby, at times we all forget this.

10km easy run, 54:11 at 5.28 pace, then followed by a 1km walk home.
Everything seemed to go wrong today, my knees were niggly, I had some stomach ache because I ate too much yesterday and my left calf is most definitely tight and a bit of a worry just 10 days out!

Got up at 0505, before the alarm, went to the bathroom, thought ā€œtoo early to wake up yet, I’ll get another 30 minutes rest inā€¦ā€

0655 until I woke back up :see_no_evil::rofl:

Bye bye swim.
