Training - What Training?!

Second day of nothing yesterday.

In bed just after 8. Body clearly telling me I need the rest. Been a while since I’ve had 12 hours though!

20 miler today.

Plan was a 11-12 mile loop, quick refill, then head out on my normal route which has 6/7/8 mile possibilities.

Felt ok on the first loop, but was glad to get some fluid at about 90 minutes in,
Headed out on a slightly different loop to keep my mind active, but really started to suffer in the warm, windy conditions.

First hour - 9:30/0:30 run/walk
Second hour on - 9:15/0:45 run walk

2:29:36 / 7:28 pace / 132HR

Doesn’t really give an accurate picture as last 8 miles were about 15-20 seconds slower and HR about 10-15 beats higher.

Legs gonna get a bit of a rest now before Midnight Man Half on Saturday

20 miler? Does this mean you are planning something? (Feel free to ignore this question)

I’ll answer for him, like his weird internet stalker.

Guinness World Record attempts at half marathon and marathon whilst dressed as a ninja.
Including those weird shoes ninjas have.

I’ve got some two toed wetsuit boots like that. Wonder if there’s a GWR for that? :joy:

Yes of course I had forgotten about that!

I once did the Cheltenham half marathon. I ended up with a 1:20:xx so was running at a reasonable pace. At 10 miles a guy came past me dressed in a full Andy Pandy (some of you may need to look this up) outfit including the hat. It was a stinking hot day too so god knows how he felt. Never saw him again

Original plan was London 2020
Record then was 4:17

Guinness let a guy do a “virtual” (he ran on the road) VLM in October, despite the rules usually saying you can’t

He’s dropped it to 3:55.

Found out there was a HM record as well, at 1:54, so thought why not.

HM is 3 weeks out from London, so ideally the best prep.

Once this weekend is out of the way, I’ll go into full on run training and drop the swim/bike right down.

Lots of strength work on the calves to do
Lots of 5km test runs in the shoes/outfit to highlight any issues.

Doing a lot of stuff in costume, you know problems only occur once you’ve been suited up for a while

Perhaps he went a bit Louby Lou?

Bath Half Marathon I got beat by a Leprachaun (?sp) in green tights, tunic, hat and green suede socks.

The maddening thing is that he would run past and then stop for 20 seconds or so to do a little dance for the crowd, then pick it up again

Must’ve had his Lucky Charms that morning :joy_cat:

I did Reading Half Marathon, and there was a massive hailstorm and freezing cold winds in the middle of it, and Mr Tickle came flying past me loving the weather in his smug full body covered kit.

…and to add to this sorry tale,

I was overtaken by a 4 ‘man’ skull at the finish line at London marathon, to whom I remarked rather rudely to the last lady as they passed “don’t matter how fast you run, you’ll not beat the person in the front” and in return, got a look of utter rage and hate.

2 hours later, Mrs MC tells me she saw me on TV congratulating Branson’s daughter at the back of the boat, and did I see that it was one of the minor royals in the front? :flushed:

Ramp test…… gotta love those early gains when you’ve been a bit slack, and then start to push again.

up 11.4% to 205W in just 6 weeks.

My target of 240 is looking a bit less scary, and already at my Jan interim target!

Ramp test today, probably shouldn’t have bothered haha. -4.4%. HR didn’t really get up there but the legs were giving out, so fatigue from Sunday no doubt.

Garmin once again predicted my poor performance with a “-5” performance notification early doors.
