Turned my ankle last night getting up from the sofa!!! Luckily no training planned for the weekend. Hopefully will be back on it by Monday.

Ahhhh the Maryhill Magyars, my late father’s team. No idea how he failed to get me to support them, I’m a Doonhamer😬

No no no, for some bizarre reason they were called that by their fans for a period in the 50’s.

Now more commonly known as Plastic Whistle🤣

… :face_with_monocle: queen of the south?

Yes sir, the one and only team in the Bible.

from a letter in the Guardian:.

"It is often said that 'Queen of the South' is the only team mentioned in the Bible - but I can find many mentions of 'Bury' (starting in Genesis 23) and 'Reading' (Acts 8:28), and, stretching a point, 'Hearts' and 'Wolves' also get some space. Are there any others I've missed out?"

There are biblical references aplenty, so best to get the most tenuous ones out of the way first. Psalm 80:13 mentions, "Boars from the forest ravage it and the creatures of the field feed on it", while Genesis 12:15 notes, "And when Pharaoh's officials saw her, they praised her to Pharaoh, and she was taken into his palace." Isaiah 41:7 even manages to (sort of) cover two Premiership clubs: "The craftsman encourages the goldsmith, and he who smooths with the hammer spurs on him who strikes the anvil."

But we can do better. Jeremiah 50:25 reads: "The Lord has opened his arsenal and brought out the weapons of his wrath, for the Sovereign Lord Almighty has work to do in the land of the Babylonians." There are also the three mentions of Bolivian club The Strongest; in Samuel 11:16, Chronicles 5:2, and Daniel 3:20, while Brazilian outfit Corinthians even share their name with two books in the bible.

"There are a few occurences, discounting the use of place names in Israel that still exist and have teams or places names in Latin America named after Biblical references," adds John Morrow. "In the New International Version you can find Grasshoppers [Zurich] a number of times (eg Numbers 13:33), while Aurora (a club in Guatemala) occurs a number of times in the Spanish language Nueva Versión Internacional (eg Job 3:9), as does Uruguayan side Defensor (eg Proverbs 23:11)."

But our favourite has to be this - somewhat dubious - suggestion from Bill Wright, relating to Proverbs 13:23: " A poor man's field may produce abundant food, but injustice sweeps it away." Something Stags fans will probably get quicker than most.

Had to bail and get an uber home on my long run. Started off feeling queasy but was positively green by half way and felt empty. Couldn’t eat and drinking was tough. Now curled up in bed feeling sorry for myself.:pensive:

Hope it’s not too bad and you can sleep it off.

12km around Rivington with daughter for first run and walk for about 10 years - really enjoyed it and took 30 mins off last week when we did same route but just walked.

Take it easy mate. It does happen and sometimes come out of nowhere!

(For me), quite a big training day.

11.5k lumpy run this morning, in 54 minutes.

30 minute spin class this afternoon.

Let’s hope I can burn off the extra Covid pounds* and fit it into my tri suit next weekend!

12 hours this week, some core, circuits swim etc a few static bikes hard ish two hour one yesterday, which was probably a mistake.

The big finish to the week was a half marathon 1:30 row attempt.

Felt great for the first 30 mins, and ok at the hour, at 1:15 I was 38 seconds up on required pace, at 1:18 my hr shot up, my ass started really aching, I realised I had no more liquid and no fuel… so I stopped.

I’m honestly quite disappointed with my self I really should have limped in and been 1:31–1:32, maybe faster.

Some days it’s just not there I guess

Unlucky with the HM attempt @Mungo2 sometimes we need bad days, otherwise we don’t cherish the good ones.
