Training - What Training?!

:ok_hand:t4:
Back when I used to drive I’d often go out to my car for a nap if I was knackered.

When I was training a lot in 2010/2011 I worked in a large office building that was actually two buildings stuck together. There were some floors that weren’t used, but you could just walk dow the stairs to them.

I would quite frequently ā€˜go for lunch’ and actually have a nap in the toilets; the cubicle furthest from the door was slightly wider than the rest so I would put the lid down swivel round 90 degrees, and use a pillow as a cushion. It worked pretty well.

I cant do it. I need a super king sized bed, 300 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets smoothed perfectly flat, a and fan. My says I’m Princess and the Pea about sleeping and I cant disagree

I’m a nap anywhere guy. As soon as i’m in a moving vehcile (not driving) i can be sleeping in seconds. Doesn’t matter if it’s a car, noisy old bus, whatever. I’m pretty convinced that i actually managed to nap standing up once as well.

I’m the same. Can sleep like a cat.

On two occasions I’ve fallen asleep standing. Both years ago after a late night, early morning ā€˜clubbing’ :joy:

Do you both find it easier to nap than go to bed at night?? Work car park at lunch I can fall asleep so quick its quite scary!

1hr clearing the neighbours gutter

2hr mopping up the flooded pain cave floor

I’ve had a look at their other, primary gutter and it is filed to the brim with moss. :man_facepalming:t2: So I’m getting 70% of their rainfall all into my garage. Not irritated at all.

No, i’m a big sleeper, so i’m ok at night as well. Only thing that ruins my sleep is eating sugary stuff too close to bed, caffeine (obviously) or knowing i have to be up early for a run/ride the next day. Then my brain thinks it’s frickin hilarious to keep me awake all night!

When I was a stable lad I once feel asleep while sat on a horse. I had been up all night.

I can nap in the car, on buses and trains and short haul flights no bother. But in cattle class on long haul  At least business class next time.

I don’t think they make new recruits do it so much these days, but when I was a lad we had to work long weekends in the hospital. Kind of like a backyard ultra I guess, except we didn’t have to pay to do it. But we did have to do it one weekend in five or six.

Anyway, this must have been a bad weekend because I got home on Monday evening, having left for work on Saturday morning, and realised:

  1. I really needed the toilet; and
  2. My shirt socks and scrundies badly needed to go in the laundry basket.

However, being in a sort of sleep-deprived confusional state, I instead put my clothes in the toilet. Just managed to stop myself before peeing in the laundry basket.

No worries sleeping for me either.

I only find I struggle if I’ve done a really hard bike session too late. Chain gang or vo2 efforts and I’m still buzzing hours later. Or if I’ve got something important to do the next day. I’ll then wake up constantly, stressing about my alarm!

Exactly

Yes. That’s also too late for me.

Bed at 10pm.
Need to be exercised by 1930 at the latest.

Just over 2 weeks ago I injured my Metatsal in my left foot. Metatsalgia has been a bit of a theme for me. Generally 2-3 weeks no running or hiking then it is good. Did a 3 hour hike yesterday, foot felt OK, not fully recovered, but no accute pain. Managed an 11km run on treadmil at 5:30 pace, nice to see HR at 114bpm, didn’t even get a sweat on. Mild discomfort in foot, but seems to be fine. Will see tomorrow how it feels

With metatasalgia, if I wait for pain to disappear, I would probably be waiting for 4+ weeks, however, I find that if I start running gently at the right point it heals much faster

I have Lucern Marathon in 10 days, I decided that if I wasn’t running before this weekend I would abandon, now thinking this it is probably 60:40 going to happen

Trail run 9km with 350mtrs vert. Average HR152 pace 6:30. Walked some of the steeper sections. Hope to get a longer run over the weekend.

I notice this site goes quite about 10.30. Everyone tucked up in bed like good triathletes. Just me, party for 1.

10:30 is about 2hrs before I go to bed, most times. I had hoped my sleep would become more consistent as my training did but it didn’t happen. I did go to bed earlier for a while but I didn’t sleep any more.
