That is on my to do list, along with running a sub 17 5km this year. Sh*t, i’ve just completed that this weekend. That means
has just moved up one. gulp
I’d recommend it in the off season, as you won’t be able to leap straight back into the training - running at least in my experience. I think it was about 3 weeks before I was back running properly; mainly due to the impact on that region caused by running. Budgy smugglers defo req’d
A lot of guys wondered what I was on about, who’d also had it done… but they watched a lot of sport rather than did it
Three weeks???
It was three days before I was gentle jogging again.
Having your wisdom teeth removed is far far worse
May be time for a new thread … i need to get on with it, but genuinely want to minimise impact on race season (if i can even call it that).
Solid weekend for me, 39 kmh average at a 100 mile sportif on Saturday, 38 km hilly run yesterday & 2 mile in the lake this morning. IM Austria 4 weeks on Sunday so at the pointy end of training.
Yes my wife is already talking about a third. The prospect of being outnumbered seems quite overwhelming atm!
Christ alive! Was it all downhill???
Yeah, but you have tiny balls LOLZ
It is called the Flat & fast 100, was a solo effort though.
Just seen it on Strava - they put a “hill” in towards the end
Not a bad week for me as well, did the standard distance tri on Monday, managed
2swims - not huge distance but a decent amount of quality
4bikes - 205km, 2 decent sessions, then 80k & 56k at the weekend
5*runs - 56km, more double the last couple of weeks together, tired parkrun in 19:07
So I reckon about 13-14 hours in total. Feeling a bit tired today after a few pints last night but hopefully keep it up this week.

Now that sounds like a great training plan!
@Poet i found the wetsuit. It fits. And had goggles, a neoprene and swimming booties from the Celt man all in the bag.
Now to find a lake!
No idea how to link this reply to the original post!
YES YES YES!!!
It links. Click my face in the top right of the post and it takes you to the original post.

Find a mate and swim in any lake
A few from here “wild” swim in one of the many local mere’s on a Saturday morning (which is generally my day of rest!)

Seems to have been all my training has consisted of the last couple of weeks. Organising a stag do, with the wedding only 5 days later, has knocked me for six. I can’t handle big drinking weekends in such close proximity anymore.
Good job I have another wedding this weekend (in Dublin
) and a different 3 day stag do the following weekend.
Perfect prep in the four weeks prior to a 70.3 ![]()
It’s a race to the bottom!
If you’re last to get married, none of these will attend yours, as they’ll all be married with kids by then and won’t be able to get a pass-out.
But yes, it’s not ideal prep.
Then again, you can cram 70.3 more than a full.

I have to say, not my experience. Most of my mates in that boat are well up for weddings/stags, as it’s a guaranteed pass
Then it will be kids parties up-the-wazoo for 10 years
kids parties up-the-wazoo for 10 years
Don’t get me started on those!
Since when can’t you leave your kids anymore?
But back on topic…
…swim was cut in half due to needing an emergency toilet break this morning. Could not be bothered to get back in after that. Though I did feel noticeably lighter.
Though I did feel noticeably lighter
I’m going to struggle not to put weight on this week; much less training, but constant metabolism. They have a cake sale here today - just troughed a slice of chocolate cake ![]()
I find when I taper-off, the brain tells the body to conserve energy and lethargy to training sets in. The body is a very clever thing, especially when it’s become highly ‘trained’ to act in certain ways. It’s the same with getting-up early for races; my body doesn’t take long before it’s evacuating to prepare for the event, like an autonomous response.
