5 minute stops for what?
I would have done the same!
5 minute stops for what?

One of the many reasons why I never ride in a group.
Climbing yesterday afternoon and a 9.6km trail run this morning. Hubby cooked for Easter, now Iâm rather light headed with a stomach full of beef filet and valpolicella ![]()
Put in a new HRM battery yesterday, worked for the run. HR seems way too low today though, 1hr at 172W 112 Hr avg, max 119. A walk would get my HR to that normally.
13° at the start, 18-20° forecast.
(ETA: I did an hour on my own first at 8° in SS jersey)
Puncture (thatâs okay)
Taking off gilets, arm warmers, leg warmers. WTF.
Why canât everyone do that at once?
Then a comfort break.
Why couldnât you have done that when people were stripping off?
Massive wait at a junction when no cars were coming.
I was sat down and my food had nearly arrived when they got back ![]()

We do that route loads and have done it in just under three hours before. Elapsed time ![]()
So I am at a loss as to what all the fu kery was today ![]()
10.3km in 49min 136HR
35km in 63min 142HR 232AP 246NP was averaging 35.5kph until I made a left turn and seemingly it plummetted after that, no idea what it was.
So 15 1/2 hours for the week 6:13 running, the rest cycling (running morning, cycling afternoon/evening every day) all utterly recoverable by the next day, but mostly thatâs 'cos I am still struggling to go hard.
Completely fair!
If youâre stopping to take arm warmers or hikers off, youâre not riding with cyclists. WTH stops to do that?
A really disappointing morning ride for me; first proper one on the new TT bike. Not sure why, but it just felt slow. And an average speed of just under 30kph for 3 hours backs that up.
Not sure if it was my legs, the road, the cold, the tyres, my setup or something else. Or maybe a combo of them all. But even when in aero going downhill I felt like I was going slower than on my road bike. Tyres on it are Continental Gator Hardshell. With a name like that, I assume (hope) theyâre not the fastest tyres.
Really underestimated the temp, especially with freezing blimmin fog sat all the way up the river. Though my fingers and toes were going to drop off!
Back was fine the whole ride. Shoulders a bit tired by the end. Neck really stiff in the last hour. So I know where to work there. Hips a tad pinchy at the end too, so some positional tweaks needed for sure.
Still, thatâs 3 hours at 234NP in the legs. Thatâs banked at least. Had a bit of a low week last week, and itâs holiday this week, so will be low again.
Good for winter commutes, something like -20W over GPs though. Iirc.
Do yourself a favour and throw those tyres in the bin straight away
Doesnât sound like a bad ride though GB, decent power there for 3 hours!
If youâre cycling at 234W for 30kmh something is massively wrong!
I did 217W (2.46W/kg) at 33kmh in winter kit, normal helmet and training wheels (it snowed and hailed towards the end, so probably similar temps and pressure etc)
Brake rubbing?
Hubs knackered?
As per @joex those tyres will be speed sapping, couple that with what I would guess as a poor road surface combines for some hard graft for little speed
Yeah cheers guys. Didnât think it seemed right.
@Poet I did think when I spun the wheels by hand that they didnât spin for very long. Tbh theyâre the crappy stock wheels that the bike came with. I will, at some point be getting new race wheels (or at least borrowing a set) so thatâll fix that issue hopefully.
Guess if I keep training with this setup, then Iâll feel lightning fast on race day. Like running with a weighted pack! ![]()
Not for you or I!
For a lightweight like @gingerbongo , then yes.
He was 3.3W/kg for that NP.
Currently 8 miles into a 28 mile hike.
Due to the company we normally use for our residential going under due to COVID Iâve had to plan an alternative.
So itâs a 2 day hike, similar to DofE
Today Iâm checking the whole route, then next week Iâve got to do it twice with two different groups Tues-Fri
7.something mile run early onâŚ
⌠relatively lumpy, 7:10 pace.
Check the wheels are seated properly by putting weight on it and releasing the QRs. Then check the brake positions as @Poet suggested.
Edit
If itâs a TT you wonât vertical dropouts but still check the wheels seated properly.
One other thing is tyre width. I had 25mm GPs on my frame rated for 25mm tyres but their actual width when riding was like 1-2mm more, took me months to figure out and cost me at Lanza.
