Training - What Training?!

800 meters accent isn’t to be sniffed at!

There’s no frickin flat roads anywhere here. It’s a blimmin pain (when you’re training for Cotswolds!)!

SW roads and road surfaces can really slow you down though (in my limited experience of IRL riding)

Lots of stop-start, awkward junctions and lights, strange little hills everywhere, tractors, cows etc etc

Edit: case in point, this ride from Sat: 249W NP for 32kmh

30 kph for 3 hours…

Slowest tyres in the world, no punctures though.

Youth is wasted on the young.

10 hours mostly at her majesties pleasure.

Highlights are two static bike efforts and some tough running circuits.

Nice to see some of you shifting ready for races .
Completed 60 hours overtime this week, 40 last, 70 next…. All at a good rate for lazy screw.

Anyone got any tips how to avoid supertax ?

Nice 13k cycle to the pool. Good swim (set a PB over 400m which was nice). Problematic 13km cycle back home - first my pedal fell off (not clear yet if it was just not on tight enough or if there’s an issue with the thread - tempted just to grab the Shimano 105 crankset from Wiggle on sale), then my gears wouldn’t shift. Fixed both which was a miracle for me given I am hopeless.

Think my 8 year hand me down Pinnacle Dolomite could do with a service…

Having a cider in the sun now.

Roads near @gingerbongo are slow, the road surfaces are tough, the sight lines on descents are poor, you have to avoid the busy roads, there’s hills everywhere, and they’re often of the short sharp variety, which are great if you sprint up, and recover, but absolutely destroy average speed if you’re trying to maintain steady average watts.

Fortunately the cotswolds roads are silly fast compared to it, the roads on the course aren’t smooth, but they’re not that slow, and it’s flat and comfortable - I’d certainly expect well over 30kph on a road bike set up. (Maryka did over 24mph on 240w on the part of the course that is also the 10 mile tt in straight road set up)

@Poet I believe you also use auto-pause don’t you, so your average speeds are not comparable to a normal persons

Auto-pause on less than 4kmh, yes.
Mainly to remind me to try when climbing

Quite surprised after the hike yesterday I was able to swim reasonably this morning

10 x 200m off 3:30
10 x 100m off 1:45
All at 1:30 and below pace

1km pull and paddles

4.5 days in Girona gravel riding. 580km and 6745m climbing. Bike now has a thick layer of fine gravel dust covering it. Deep clean this week. Half day as I rode 50km in the morning before my flight back yesterday!
