It’s my standard TT loop, from a local TT course.
Turns out I did it three years ago on May 17th…slightly different out and back/warm up cool down bit, but main loop identical:
Same EF, VI, W/Kg
But as I was lighter, power was lower.
That’s 84kg in 2019 vs 88kg in 2022.
(I got down to 77kg for the 113 in 2019!)
Average speed was 0.5kmh faster in 2019, equipment all the same, so I reckon that’s down to temperature and it was a little breezy last night
@fruit_thief - Often get over 1,000W when I’m outside. I think it’s just a spike from standing up hills, 5s power is nowhere near it (These all appear to be Thu/Sun club rides)
Was supposed to rain from 7. Fortunately it’s held off and my commute in was dry, need it to come and go as I’ve got a long ride planned for this evening!
We had a corker of a storm Wed night but I was still surprised how muddy the trails were yesterday. They’ve been like concrete, so I thought the water would just run off.
I woke up to swim, yeah that’s not happening.
Riding in that position outdoors for 80mins has broken Me
Back, Shoulders and neck are killing
Mind you, it’s my first day off in 13 days (17hrs 15mins)
From March 21st to April 10th I did 4 hours of “exercise”
Since then, I’ve “averaged” 10hr weeks, so no wonder I’m kerfuffled!
14.5 mile run:walk into work.
Have just lost the ability to run “well”
Hip flexors have been killing lately and now this is radiating across my lower abs.
Coupled with a fair bit of fatigue from the last 5 weeks of 20+ hours
Starting to get frustrated with my fitness / training and how I’m not hitting expected numbers. I’ve done the most hours of training in 2022 compared to every prior year.
Swimming in the pool has massively improved from 2.05m/100 in Feb to swimming a 3.20 200m and a 6.45 400m. I’ve swam a total of 42000m this year compared to 17000m in the whole of 2021.Did it translate to a better pace in the lake yesterday…NO! 1900m in 40 mins.
Previous years I’ve had my FTP around 280w by May. This year it’s closer to 240w. Planned to do 2 hours at 205w today, held 200w for 90 mins and then had to cruise it in as the legs were done. That used to be an easy number to hit.
Running is somewhat ok. I’ve PBd at 10k and HM distance already and my running off the bike is much better. However even when I get intervals at HM pace, I’m finding it hard to hit, even for 1km reps.
I know 3 separate bouts of illness (darn you kids) has knocked me back a bit but the lack of progress is annoying. I’m considering just piling in endurance bike rides for the next few to try get some form of bike fitness back. I set a target of sub5 at Cotswolds. Currently it’s really borderline

transitions (leaves max 7 mins)
Without wanting to sound disrespectful to your friend (it’s not meant that way), but is the coaching aspect part of the issue maybe? Perhaps he/she hasn’t quite nailed the style of session that suits your body and circumstance.
I say that as I imagine I’d be a nightmare to coach, as I’m really irregular and don’t tend to fit standard models. Maybe you’re the same?
I know you said you’ve had a pretty tough few months at work. That’ll be taking a toll. And don’t underestimate those illnesses. They’re buggers.
I’d be tempted to do what you’ve suggested and chuck in some big rides, maybe a big run. Get that nice aerobic jump that comes with big sessions, and may help you settle psychologically as well. Then dial back into the programme and see how you progress.
Never ever got near that 400 m pool time, even with a pb.
Swam an effortless ( and it really was) 1.9 in open water in 33? Mins, I would seriously look at what’s happening outside and possibly some ow tutoring and suit choice.
Training load is impressive, sub 5 on the way hopefully.
So it’s mostly your cycling? Can you check in a club 10 or anything in case the power meter is out? Endurance rides might help but the hard Zwift efforts definitely helped me over winter and I did very few longer rides before Texas.
I think quite a few people have said their pool times have been much better than O\W so far this year, cold water and probably lack of time in the wetsuit. I often struggled to carry over pool swimming but 6:45 should get you around 35 minutes really.
Wilmslow parkrun (four “hills” and trail path)
5th overall.
Best placing here for 19:33
Strava has robbed me of 22m here.
Garmin had it at 5.02km
Decent jog after 6 months of next to no running and zero speedwork
Heart and lungs had More to give.
Legs had other ideas
Ankle is A-OK and nice to see some familiar faces again
Pees me right off!!!
I know Stretford (South Mancs) is notoriously fast (read: at least 100m short!)
But my own running club measured this with a wheel on Tuesday evening and marked the turns, as they were pacing today
Bit of everything here. Trails walking, road running, and Parkrun in there somewhere after 18kms.
Definitely wasn’t feeling it today though. Hard work!
