Triathlons GOAT

LCB is not in the conversation IMO - 3 Kona bridesmaids and a 70.3 title ain’t cutting it

Triathlon’s BLOAT, perhaps? (Not IMO, but for some)

At least it’s pretty clear-cut that the GOAT-GOAT is Bradman. Remember reading that there’s no one else anywhere near statistically so far ahead of everyone else in their respective sport (save maybe Taylor in Darts)

I think you’re talking about Cricket?

Seems like he was pretty good! Didn’t he have a few matches removed from his records this year reducing the number of centuries he’s made?

Yep cricket.

MVP 2021 though maybe

“What do you think you’d average against contemporary bowlers?”

“Oh, maybe 50-60?”

“But, you played against some of the best bowlers in history and managed nearly 100!”

“Well, you’ve got to remember I’m nearly 72 now”

Class :clap:t3:

Time to bump this after yesterday. Jan didn’t move the needle I’m afraid.

Men

  1. Allen
  2. Frodeno
  3. Brownlee

Women

  1. Jones
  2. Snowsill
  3. Ryf

I find the women’s a lot more difficult and open to debate. Your average IMJer probably never heard of Jones & Snowsill!

How can you not have Paula Newby-Fraser on that ladies list?? 8 x IM World Champ

I’d bump Snowsill off that list as well - great over short distance but no real record of anything longer unlike her husband, Frodeno.

Yes, it’s hard; I really wanted to PNF on there. It’s certainly not as clear cut for the females. Certainly the female Ironman GOAT.

@Poet The problem with LeBron, is he thinks he’s the GOAT. For every human being I see wearing LeBron shoes, there are 7,652 people wearing Jordans.

We are off to see the Flyers play the Patriots on Fri night; courtside. My Son and I are Flyers members (he goes to the community training sessions in Bristol). I shall be cheering for Plymouth inwardly though

Now I’ve more awareness of the modern NBA game, my it’s changed from the 80/90s hasn’t it. Quite sterile.

it’s a tough call on the ladies. You could throw Chrissie Wellington into the mix with her unbeaten IM record - in fact was she ever beaten over any distance? - and Flora Duffy with her mix of WT and Xterra Champs. No doubt when (if?) Dora Flufffy goes long she could become another Frodeno

Erin Baker surely deserves a mention too? AB still has time to move up that list if he could stay fit long enough to get race fit. AT SC he is the best IMO.

Yes, AB is the Oly/Short Distance GOAT. Tbh outside the top 3 there are lots of honourable mentions for M/F.

seems she was - 5th at Wimbleballl (after a mechanical) and 3rd at Singapore 70.3 (3 weeks after her 1st IM win)

Has she ever elaborated how she managed to go from winning her AG over the short course, to Kona Pro champion in barely more than a season…

She seems to talk almost exclusively about motivational content and tamborine banging; the training bit seems to be conspicuous in it’s absence.

I don’t think she has but if you look at her early history in tri she was clearly naturally talented (and motivated) and I guess coming under Brett Sutton’s direction once she turned pro and went to IM distance helped give her some better structure to her training, nutrition etc.

And for that reason alone I’d leave Chrissie off the list.

“I cycled round Nepal on an old MTB and then became IMWC”

Erm, okay :person_shrugging:t3::roll_eyes:

Anyways…

Men; not sure why you have Brownlee on there?
I reckon Allen and Frodo, but where’s Macca :face_with_peeking_eye::joy:
If Iden/Blum win Paris, they’ve got to go in at 3rd, surely?

Women?
Ryf, PNF, Knibb :speak_no_evil:

Macca easily in top 10. Prob 5.

Even a Top 10 is competitive; throw in Blu, Dave Scott, Lessing, Macca, Crowie etc etc…
