I paid my last part of the race entry fee today and have got 2 nights in Swindon sorted so pretty committed to this now!

Need to get used to getting up a ridiculous o’clock though, and a bit of swimming might be useful

Ive not booked accommodation yet.

Im not taking it seriously at the moment only six hours on the bike in February I think. No swim.

Just complete the first bit and then run hard is my only plan atm.

Email came through from 113 events today

“All Swimmers will get an event Swim cap at registration, and these are all the same colour so do not define your wave etc. If you are very nervous about the Swim section of the race, you can see my team on Sunday AM, and we will have a handful of ‘Nervous Swimmer’ hats, which are a different colour, so the water safety crew can keep a better eye on you to ensure you’re ok - Not that they don’t keep a good eye on you anyway, but this just bolsters up that supervision to another level.”

I have emailed back to ask if there are sharks or crocs in the lake, or maybe pike, as this will affect the colour of hat I request.

Edit: really should start to think about training for this. Swim will be fine but haven’t cycled 90km or run 21km for over a year. The one time a few weeks ago I ran 20km, it really set my hip back so am going to need to be super careful there. Think I’ll play it by ear a bit but ideally would like to get at least 5 or 6 decent ride:run bricks in at a reasonable effort before July. This will probably involve getting out on the bike early and then running on a treadmill as things hot up here.

Got the email myself. I’m sure you can sandbag the last 5k on the run if you can get some training runs up to 16k!

Biking 90k seems harder than it used to, or aiming for about 3 hours so plenty of rides per week add up.

check about freshwater mussels as well……they’re a bugger to stand on (allegedly).

This comment goes back to a time when we were doing our RTO course which allowed us to officiate at open water events. The facilitator kept banging on about the danger of freshwater mussels as a hazard in an open water swim - all participants were wondering if we’d ever seen one!! (Some had never heard of them). Frankly plastic bags are more of a hazard than bloody freshwater mussels

Will there be water in the lake this year? :joy::face_with_peeking_eye:

@fruit_thief It was very clear last year.

You could see all the critters. And weird plants / weeds.

Leeches, snakes (they move fast in water), spikey fish, I mainly saw other althletes swimming past to take my mind off the grass snakes.

I am, the July one.

I’m in. Slightly clueless about how I’m going to train for it, it’s too damn hot now.

Not sure doing nothing for the next 8 weeks is ideal.
