TT Smackdown 2025

Nah gotta book these days (well you can turn up and pay if they have space).
50 slots every half hour… naturally Friday started to sell out.

Some of the water is so clear tho it’s lovely. Couple of inlets stir it up. I know a few resent paying as they used to swim for free.

I got a block of 10 swims…so at £4 it’s cheaper than the pool!

Edit. The only downer is they only open the main lake Fri, sat, sun and holidays. Rest of time its a 400 loop in small crap lake

Ah, balls.
I’m in Derby tomorrow and swimming first thing, so could’ve come and said hi with my turquoise on :sunglasses:

Busy busy…

Oh also membership card, £5, first time :person_shrugging:

Ha ha ha.
FRO :rage:

I despise the commoditisation of OW swimming.

It’s a lake. Turn up swim. Go home.

“You got to wear a buoy”
“You gotta wear a bright cap”

BUT NOWHERE DOES IT SAY I HAVE TO BE ABLE TO FUCKING SWIM :face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth::face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

TBF, I might swim tonight and run tomorrow now.
Only had pop at the pub :star_struck:
(Which in itself is a massive change for me :joy:)

oh yeah that too - then still get smacked by paddle boarders, canoes and kayaks.

Im amazed the place has took off like it has. They’ve proper dumped some cash into it.

We may have derailed the thread

To be fair, I felt a bit “exposed” when swimming for free (solo) at Pickmere. So I actually think paying a fiver is okay.
I was chatting to the lake owner last week - the blue dye they use to suppress the weeds has gone up from £400/l to £1600/l :money_mouth_face::exploding_head:
So I do like a moan, but to be honest, the rules are probably for everyone’s benefit :joy::face_with_peeking_eye:

Might go swimming tonight now and running in the morning.

But yeah - thread derail :joy:

Go in the sea

Free but :shark:

Our local lake is decent, changing rooms, hot showers, they supress the weeds as much as possible. That was a fiver ago last time I went and you could buy a season ticket that worked out about 4 quid a go.

They said you had to swim in pairs, but the lake is small, you could easily make it to the side. I always went on my own

The actual lake you’ll actually be swimming in for 113 is £7 a go, PAYG :sob:

Whats it like @Sowler ? Been spoilt of late.
Used to weed free, crystal clear and 6 foot deep!

I’m hoping he says it’s deep enough to stand in for us panickers :joy:

Place I used to go has changed hands, and you now have to book. Pretty sure it was £10 at one point under the last owner (obviously people told him it was a rip off). Still no decent changing rooms or showers and it’s £7.50 atm. It’s clean, but in no way scenic and the water is murky AF. Caveat is that it’s a private man-made lake, so there was always going to be a charge.

They even have a website now: https://westcountrywaterpark.co.uk/

In Germany, you can just swim in most of the lakes for free.

Yeah still pretty good. And definitely deeper than 6 foot! Except there was a weird shallow section on the 1500m Oly swim route, pretty much on the opposite side of the lake to the main get in point which we waded through during the 51fiver swim.

I saw one jellyfish on Tues when swimming in the sea. Does that count?

Look out Cots.

I have my (placebo) anti-cramp fanny pack, ready to fly. Feels pretty comfortable just stood in the kitchen. Will test it today on a run with water actually in the bottles! :joy:
