Virtual Zwift Rides

This is the point though isn’t it?

You can ‘beat’ people every day on your hill reps, or tempo runs or track sessions. But only two things count. Training effect (that session is now in your legs) and then race day.

Agree that Zwift and RL are different. There is even race craft in Zwift (although not on a TT), however, it is different race craft to real life. However, I find I improve by riding and racing against peope who are better than me; on Zwift at any time I can go and race against people who are better, hence I can improve faster.

I have a love/hate relationship with Zwift, I love racing, but really don’t enjoy just riding.

I would love to ride a real time trial again. I would love to ride a 100 mile TT (never done one) and see how close to 4 hours I could get

You’d probably get better crowds than the IM Hamburg bike course

I know how close I could get.

Not very.

I think I could do it on Zwift on the Sand and Sequoias course. In real life, no idea

I suspect you would have to slow down to get close to 4 hours unless it’s a very sporting course.

Had my first power meter dropout today. Only on a ToW group ride, but very annoying. Was spending some time trying to figure out the best way to stay in the middle of the pack. Steady power just shoots you off the front, into the wind, then out the back, etc etc. I was getting there, but it takes some timing as you have a few seconds lag between adjustments to your power impacting your avatars speed (I guess like in real life, where a burst of power takes a second or two to translate to a change in real road speed)… Anyway, I was trying to have as gentle a ride as possible whilst staying with the second group. Then I was in no mans land. And ego got the better of me and I didn’t want to be caught by those behind, so it was then a pretty intense final 10k to keep away.

That would be very annoying to happen in a race.

There’s not a coach worth their salt that would recommend that you race two hours before a TT ?!?!?

Happy to pop across to timetriallingforum to ask the question but I think I know the answer before I do

When you say amateur what do you mean ?

Eh? It’s nothing to do with coaches, or advice, you have no choice but to race a couple hours before a TT (or T a couple of hours before a race), the overall races are stage races, where you have road races and TT’s (and sometimes team time trials and crits too) You have to do both the TT and the race otherwise it’s not a competition. Not sure what you’d be asking of the TT forum?

Just look on the BC site, search the “road” category for stage races, you’ll see many - The Bournemouth wheelers event has a 10mile TT in it, generally they are open to anyone outside of the South east of the country, where because of the volume of racers you need to be a 3rd cat generally to ride on the road.

Of course not if you are trying to maximise your potential, but it happens in stage races. Took me 30s of googling to find a multi-stage cycling event with a TT and crit on the same day:

EDIT - Jim beat me to a more explanatory reply

Riding now. Why are we all wearing the same shitty kit today?

That’s clearly not a 10 mile TT two hours after a crit race but I take your point and it wasn’t something I was aware of happening .

I came at this from a time triallers point of view

Let’s leave it there , it could go on forever :scream::joy:

April fools. The worst one yet. Meant to be 1980s with shit VHS style graphics . Theyve had some crackers over the years. 2 years ago was paperboy bikes and you lobbed newspapers at the squirrels.

Top 25% in B Cat :+1: I bet the C/D boys murdered us though

Tour de Watopia stage 3 - Road to the Sky 48mins, Alpe de Zwift PB 42.23, 1 hour power PB 317W (new FTP 2 days in a row) 315 to 316 to 317… but most proud of the 317 as that was a proper 1 hour effort (I had to descend the Alpe for 4 minutes before turning around as couldnt get enough power on the descent)

Not too bad since everyone on Zwift today was riding the 1980’s steel bike

4th overall, its not on Zwiftpower yet, so will wait to see if I got a top 3 there

42 mins up the AdZ??? wow!:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

Bloody hell - chapeau
What was your power for the 42 mins?
And what do you weigh?

TBF, has me fooled for a bit as I have a cracked screen on my iPad, I thought the screen was finally on its way out.

I remember the paper bikes, it was kind of funny.

Hadnt realised the races and group rides were entirely different courses. Stage 3 was the first ride i did on zwift, but I did the race. And that was just the Whole Lotta Lava route, rather than AdZ
