First time I tried it I really didnt like it… didnt “get it”… the races were all stupidly fast… didnt understand what was happening. 2nd time round I stuck with it… did loads of routes, understood the basics a bit better - then moved into group rides and races and now love it.
So dont expect to understand it all after a week!
yeah i’d echo all that. I’ve been using it for a few months now, but nowhere near as regularly as most on here. I am starting to get my head around most of the stuff, but i still forget what all the power ups mean. So happy to offer a bit more of a thick newbie perspective if you need it. It#ll make you feel much better when you understand it all within weeks!
One thing to watch out for, unless it’s changed recently, is that if you sign up to a race/event you need to be in game and on a course to enable you to get the invite to the start of the race, rather than sitting on the ‘home page’ watching the event start on the calendar without you
and make sure you sign up for the everest challenge (from the in game menu) before you ride thousands of kilometres and then realise you aren’t on your way to the elusive Tron bike!
About 8km per clothing item…the pacer bots pacing was awful. You almost need brakes!
Onto more serious matters… first Cat A race. Binned off riding with No 3 rider in zwift and went back to the trusty volcano. Plan A - dont be last!
Was only 5 cat As registered… till about 10 mins to go, then it swelled.
One of the hardest starts had in a while and it was strung out for the first few km.
Pace was relentless throughout - but whilst the group kept splitting seemed to be loads of Bs and Cs still hanging on (and driving the group!!)
Typically no power up on the last lap… Every other race I’ve tried to go from the bottom of the hill then just keep going. Result, get swamped at the kicker before the line, so tried to maintain pace going up - then at least not die in the final 500m.
Think it worked a bit better… but still dont have that finish when I’m on the limit. Absolutely ragged at the end… was awful.
Almost mid table medicrocy… it’ll do!!
I watched the video a couple of times. It is just that final bump - some people had power ups, but the real difference seemed to be about 1-2 W/kg for the group that split, and then they seemed to hold a higher power to the line.
Yeah I do need to practice sprint… but already been on limit for 20 minutes; not sure much can do. Almost damage limitation at the finish.
I got higher 30 and 15 sec power than last week, so I guess my finish was better (from my chicken legged perspective)…
