Virtual Zwift Rides

It’s shitty application architecture, imo.

Your main device connect to the internet and the Zwift servers. Your mobile device connects through the local WiFi to your main device. Other BT devices BTE to your mobile device and hop to the main one.

This means that if your mobile switches between 4G and WiFi depending on signal, everything gets fucked up. I switch off mobile data to use Zwift Companion.

Your main and mobile must be on the same local WiFi net, if your router provides two like mine and many others do, and the devices switch, it fucks up Zwift companion.

Given my Apple TV, Watch and iPhone can all talk directly to the internet this architecture is just a waste of fucking time and a pain in the ass! :rage::sweat_smile:

This is exactly why I love Zwift… it can be a complete blast!

Why not connect directly to the machine?

You think Zwift is bad RGT you control everything through the mobile app. You cannot use the software without it

I’ve only had problems in these Haute stages, and at the very start. It’s done exactly that for me the last few days. I think it’s just the strain on the system of trying to process 4000+ riders all in close proximity. I’ve just shut the companion for the first 15mins or so, then reopened it and it’s been fine.

In any other race, or group ride, it’s not been a problem. Except for an auto switch to my 5Ghz strand of BB as @joex mentions. That caught me out earlier this week.

In the last two weeks, I’m getting anywhere between 1 and 3 minutes added to my time. It seems to hang after you hit Save and Exit. Bit annoying but ok I guess.

It does have the accurate time on Zwiftpower though, like you say it seems to add any cruising or time Zwift adds on during saving.

It does affect your AP though a bit on shorter races.

It seems to add the time I spend in the starting pen to my activity, but NOT to the actual result time or Zwiftpower time.

For me Apple TV is the main device, and Watch is the HRM. TV can only handle two connections, the remote and trainer. You might blame Apple, but for the fact the Watch can use WiFi and talk straight to Zwift, except Swift haven’t designed for that.

No Haute Route for me on Sunday, I had to help my wife do her Company Tax return.

2 Zwift races for me this morning. A 14km sprint around the leeds course, then 20 minute break before 32km round Watopia.

The Watopia race was fun, started off near the back (as I couldn’t be arsed to do 400w for the first minunte) then spent the next 40 minutes bridging the gap between groups and pulling an ever increasing pack with me. My strategy was to put in some really big efforts on the front, then sit back in the group to recover for a minute, then get back on the front. I even took the sprint at the end… I suspect that everyone in the group was completels wrecked from hanging onto my wheel.

A guy from my club was in that race for BRT. Finished 22nd. Ttowel is in the same team I think. My friend literally lives on zwift now though it seems! He’s another one who does the livestream thing … I’ve only watched back the first 1/4 of his stream from this race so far.

Sanders gave it his all. Career best 5 minutes and 2nd best 20 minutes.

Those power numbers were not for the faint of heart!

I sandbagged in C Cat yesterday, so could start 10 mins earlier. Started the climb 27th/130 and finished in 13th/130. 3.6w/kg for the climb (54:20). I was 10th/74 that actually completed the event in results.

In theory I should be in Cat B (like you) but there’s so many people around 4w/kg in Cat C that my position or time is usually similar in either.

I assumed this is what all people that beat me are doing surely :joy:

Ultimate sandbagger?

Cat B???

He justified it by saying he was tired from an earlier ride and he didn’t even win it. That’s just missing the point, his 320W tired ride won’t be taxing him like everyone else trying to keep up. The ones that hebeat him are probably also sandbagging As.

Dowsett used to show up at Track League. He’d ride in the A’s but stick an 88in gear on. Was never winning races so more like a Zwift C cat
