Virtual Zwift Rides

Interwebs arent fast either. Took an hour for my zwift ride to get to TP and strava today.

That’s how I ride all my Zwift rides. Virtual TT bike in the game and real TT bike on the trainer, most of my rides I do in aero but not all.

Lotta people hanging off my back wheel on tempus fugit today. I know the TT bike is faster on its own, but I don’t know how much faster drafting is.

Since getting into zwift, I now have YouTube recommending a load of zwift related videos. It’s amazed me the setups some people have to live stream. Do these people actually make money or something?! Is there really the demand to watch?!

I’ll admit curiosity got the better of me on one yesterday. He’s got a full on green screen rig to overlay himself onto the zwift footage! And then randomly, he passed me on the road!

Ah that’s Chris Pritchard - he can be quite funny.

Former pro. Went to the commonwealth games in 2014

Mates with Cam Jeffers of dq fame

Maybe it’s the adult equivalent of kids watching other kids play fortnite or Minecraft or videos of people unboxing toys. Wtf.

If you don’t already know, check out Shane Millers’s channel. He’s an absolute top bloke, met him at some races in Oz years back and he is very supportive of any queries. His reviews are really good. He’s not on Shimano’s Xmas Card list.

Totally legit.

Yeah, thanks. Knew about GPLama from his association with DCR. His videos are good

Anyone done stage 3? Little harder than I was expecting.
Glad it’s only 3 days!!!

Planning to hop on at 5pm UK today. How long does it take? And I am assuming it is a 2 bottle job. My plan is to take it easy, aiming for 2.5wkg.

Edit: went onto zwiftpower and can see 2:30 is a more realistic target. Heck, I may skip that and go out on my real bike for the first time in 3 weeks.

I went 2:14 at 3.1w/kg.
Lots of groups to drag you along on the flats.
I found the hills almost a relief so I could tap out my own pace.
Glad there was no radio tower on the return leg mind.

I actually felt it was easier than yesterday. Longer in duration obviously, but the variation in intensity and the recovery on the descents made it seem easier somehow.

I can see the purpose of zwiftpower results when you have people posting the following times:

I did a pretty hard Cat B 16K Crit race, although it seems to have added about 1 minute onto my time unless I was coasting (hanging over the bars) before I hit save?

Zwiftpower has me down at 300W AP for 4W/KG, I think it would be 3.9.

About 2 minutes behind the Cat B winners who were pulling 5.4W/KG like most Cat B’s do! One claims to weigh 50KG.

Well, I did it. 2h40m on Garmin but we will see what the official time is in a bit. It was a tale of 2 halves for me. First half was low power, low energy, but then my body warmed up and the second Epic KOM I made up 150 places and held really strong power (seems to be about 240w for 20 minutes). Then on the run in I kept hopping from group to group. Loved it. Genuinely loved it!

Well done
I did it as well
Did not enjoy yesterday; got way too hot
Today had some cool drinks, and a wet towel
Made a huge difference
Forget the results; they are all nonsense but had a good workout; averaged 3.7w at 285w for 2,01. Thats a good-hit out
I prefer the long stuff; when you get to my age things like Alpe Zwift are very hard. Much prefer high tempo stuff…
Was fun getting in groups in the valley sections; thats when zwift is fun…

I absolutely agree. I was working with groups then hopping to the next when I had recovered, and it was great fun. On a downhill I hammered it, split away from a group, got 20m, and was putting out double their wkg for about 30 seconds but they never got further away. I rejoined them in defeat but they almost all gave me a ride on so I pulled them to the next group on the flat and left them.

Then when springing between groups late on 2 guys tacked on and came with me. One sprinted with me for victory on the intermediate about 5km from the end and just shaded me out, but he gave me some kudos with a wave and a ride on, and we worked well all the way to the end. I got him, just, on the final sprint. So the last 20 minutes or so was just crazy fun!!!

I find the companion app really frustrating, when riding. It keeps flicking between the homepage and the page for the ride I’m on. I can’t seem to lock it onto the map so I can post to my club mates, give ride ons etc. Ami missing something, or is that just how it works?

So I’m back in the house, but my bike is still in the garage descending the Alpe :joy::joy::+1:

I’m the complete opposite. The flats are killing me trying to stay in groups.
Get to something 5% and up and I effortlessly move through the field. 80 odd places on the radio tower alone today… But I’m not burning matches, HR is comfortable.
Downhill I’m j just about mastering the art of staying in the pack.
Flats, ugh, absolutely mullering me. Don’t get it
