Well just done the Bologna race… geeeeeezus that hurt.
Absolutely hung on to my group from the start - but was still down in 125th outta 200 something. Almost lost them twice, kept trying to get some recovery in the pack. As we approached the climb caught another fairly large group.
My g0d that last km goes on!
32nd over the line… Zwift power has me 2nd in Cat B.
16:01 - 301Watt avg - 4.4kg - proper chuffed with that.
Avg HR 175 and I felt every beat!
Great time, do you think the pack helped much? I’ll give it a try at some point, on the TT’s I think I start a bit too conservatively to avoid blowing up.
Massively for me - I really struggle on flats/downhill.
I wasn’t on the front at any point till we caught the next pack. So plenty of free speed (or at least easier effort).
Definitely a course suited for me, but I’m in no rush to go again. That hurt.

First go at a Hare and Hounds race for me tonight. You have no idea where you stand overall as you’re constantly passing cats C and D. Only goal has to be not lose the wheel of the group you’re in, which gets progressively harder as the groups of the earlier categories gets larger. It all becomes a bit chaotic!
Fairly long race too at 36k. Easily my best ever 45+ minute power. Got to think the 264ish FTP zwift has suggested can’t be too far off given I raced Tuesday and did 8x 5mins of over unders yesterday…
Got to be careful now… i’m just one decent race away from being forced into Cat B by ZwiftPower as i’m 0.07W/Kg on the average from a forced upgrade… not sure i’m enthusiastic about being bottom of the heap again!
Is that the minimum category? Mine says B and a few results have UPG which I’m guessing means I was too high for C.
When do you get forced from B to A? I’m hovering around 4 on it.
If you look at your profile tab, you’ll see a section called ‘minimum category’ and that has an average of your best 3 races in the last 90 days, and that is what determines your category… its based on average W/Kg, but also minimum power threshold, eg C to B is 3.2W/Kg AND 200W at 95% of 20 min power… if you exceed the limits, it changes your category whether you like it or not!
The same boundaries for B to A are 4.0W/Kg and 250W… but its still the average of your best 3 races in the last 90 days… if you cross that threshold, you’re upgraded!
That means you entered a category lower than what you were on zwift power before the race
I did the 18:30 Bologna race this eve, didn’t want to keep pushing to stay in the front pack which promptly disappeared but settled in the chase pack, passed about 20 on the climb, ended up about 37th in B but noticed there were loads with no HR so maybe that’ll get bumped up a bit? Nailed the plan anyway, 4w/kg average in the end, 4.2 or so on the climb
