Okay so thought I’d take a looksie at one of the Brit Tri races tonight.
I did my first CP20 for about 6years on Monday which puts me at 3.12 W/kg…
I appreciate that the categories are a bit arbitrary but since the cut off is 3.2 should I stick myself in the C or B cat ?
Anything else I should be expecting ?.. apart from sweating my tits off seeing as the shed gets full sun all afternoon/evening.

I have only done one race so others may have more insight. No 1, you’ll need more than 1 water bottle. If you on the boundary I would go in the lower cat. I went in D and there were much stronger people than me.

Join early so you can warm up. The races seem to go off fast so you dont want to be spat out the back

Zwift power uses 95% of 20min best power. If your headline 20min power was 3.12w/kg, then I would guess you would be sufficiently below the 3.2 limit when 95% is used to not be at risk of a DQ. That said, it’s surprising how much more I find I can push in the heat of a race, compared to a test

Ah sorry… 3.12 is already based on the zwift calculated FTP … 20min average tips me over the 3.2.

In that case, it depends on whether you think you have an ability to work harder. I’ve done two full gas races in the past two weeks, and set all time 20min bests in both. I would have never thought those numbers possible a few weeks ago. I think you get a 0.1w/kg buffer to exceed the stated limits on zwiftpower and not get a DQ (if you raced in the category you were previously assigned to).

If you’re not using zwiftpower, then none of this matters, and you can just race in-game on zwift in whatever category you like. Although they are beta testing some anti-sandbagging features, like the “cone of shame” and throttling your power/speed

Tah… given I’ve not yet any idea what zwiftpower is i’ll crack on.

Also suspect that a second CP20 would get a better result as it’s been a while since I had to pace one out.

So far I’ve only done it on a road bike, the Zwift carbon with Zwift carbon 50MM deep rims. It’s flat and fast up to about 5.5k so it’s a question of how much time you lose uphill on a TT bike.

I’m going to use a TT bike next time and see if there’s a difference but it looks like I can buy some new wheels etc. as well now.

My tactic was to leave something until the climb then try and dig in for the last 5-6 minutes uphill. Although at 18 minutes it’s not much harder than pacing a 5K.

Jeff

Stupid question the different bikes and wheels etc. Do you get those when you go up levels? I am on level 4

I think some are unlocked at different levels but you also have to buy them in the garage during the game, looks like you pay with the sweat drops? E.g. you can’t get the Cervelo S5 until you reach level 25.

Hopefully someone can confirm that as I’m interested.

Yeah i think that’s right. Some stuff is released by levels and challenges, other stuff you buy with the sweat drops.

I just bought my first thing, some Enve wheels. Haven’t used them yet, and don’t know if I’ll actually notice a difference!

Yes exactly this.

Your level dictates what Is unlocked in the garage.

You need actual drops to buy the stuff though.

If you haven’t already - sign up to that Parlee challenge on the start screen, ride 250kms and get a bonus 100k in drops

From what I’ve read your talking seconds difference…but I’m buying everything these tell me too

Thanks have worked it out now. Not enough drops or high enough level for me to upgrade just yet. Signed up for the challenge though so should give me a bump

Interesting. Is that separate to the normal California / Everest challenges, or do you need to transfer from one of those to this Parlee challenge?

My first ride was on 15th March. Currently level 17 with every recommended buy in that list (bar the zwift aero). Had brought something else prior to knowing about that list.
I have been doing anything to get extra xp, Tours, Route badges, achievements, round up to next km (using KMs not miles as more xp)…
As Adam says, keep an eye on challenges - free xp or drops basically.

Parlee challenge is an extra on top. You can keep everesting or california-ring at same time.
I unlocked the drops and the Trek on back to back rides

What a fluke. I just bought those Enve level 4 wheels! :sunglasses:

Cool, thanks. Will get myself signed up for that bit too then
