Virtual Zwift Rides

That’d be a lay in for me…

Exactly.
I used to be 0520 when I was swimming at 6am, then going to work.

I was up at 0540 today (pool opens at 0615, walked there)

Pre COVID I would be up at 5 something to get a session in before work. When I was Im training one Friday I was up at 4 to get a 20 miler run in before work

These days if I’m before 8:30 its an achievement. Get up at 7:30 wakes the kids, go back to bed.

As you said earlier though I do feel like I have wasted half the day. I do need to get back in the habbit of getting up earlier.

Just had ‘my’ new Tacx Flux S delivered. So quickly scampered to the shed to get it set up. Connected first time, but was still acting like a dumb turbo. Contact my mate, he says try turning it on and off! haha.

Do that, and hey presto it works, two options to choose from in the pair screen. Find the right one, set it up to calibrate … ipad dies.

Bleddy kids were watching stuff on it on Saturday afternoon, rinsed the battery dumped it on the side. I’ll give it 40 mins and have a light bite before trying it out for a 30 min spin. Will have to see how the shed floor copes with it. it’s pretty heavy, so i’m hoping that will work in it’s favour and stop the springiness of the dodgy shed floor.

You’ll likely be losing them.
do a dual record with your other source (?) and let us know the outcome

:crying_cat_face:

single arm crank based.

How do i do that? Take my Garmin out with me and run that at the same time as my zwift is it? Then compare the two files from the 2 sources?

Yup. Exactly that.
Upload both .FIT files to Zwift power, do a bit of cropping and magic!

TdZ looks tedious. Going for 3R at 13.40. There’s a few As now, and 2 ranked below 200. Might see if I can split it up long before Libby Hill (Richmond Course) as it’s a small field.

Usual Monday morning Kiss base ride round wattopia, 1hr 50-ish at 2.6w/kg, something like 70-odd kms

Any idea what this error message means?

phpFITFileAnalysis->readHeader(): not a valid header size!
phpFITFileAnalysis->readHeader(): not a valid header size!
Could not process any of the files provided.

EDIT - when i take the files from Strava and Garmin Connect they work OK. Initially tried downloading from TP as they were both in the same place.

In the meantime, i’ve gone for a non techy comparison as i can’t load the files into ZP.

Getting this:

a 40 w discrepancy. That can’t be right surely?! I calibrated crank on the Garmin and the Tacx. Had i never ridden outdoors, i’d be really worried. But as per the Sub 5 thread, i don’t think i’d have posted the KPH that i did in various races if my power was actually 40w below what i thought.

Then got pee’d off as i didn’t have much lunchtime left. May go back out and try to fix this evening.

Any thoughts from the Zwift/turbo/power experts? Top is Tacx bottom is the 4iiii.

Power readings aside, did 10 mins on Titan’s Grove … man the Smart turbo is VERY different to a dumb. Really weird. Will take a fair bit of getting used to. Have to actually use gears all the time rather than just amending cadence, and maybe 1 or 2 gear changes.

That’s a huge difference :ok_hand:from the same ride?

Know which one I’d use!

Have you calibrated the smart trainer?
If not - download the app - warm the trainer up for 10 mins. Then run the calibration in the app.

Don’t forget you can change the trainer setting when you have a smart trainer. Everyone has there own preference. Prob find its defaulted to 50%, I run it at 30% ish - so less gear changes - but enough to still feel the hills.

I calibrated it within the setting on Zwift - asks you to spin up to 37kph then freewheel. But i’ll give that a try this evening. Ta

Also, don’t know if i’ve done something wrong - or my mate who installed the casette - but I can’t back pedal … is that right? The casette doesn’t spin backwards and the chain just slackens.

Wrong way around … i’ve lost 40w.

Welcome to Cat D

You should be able to back pedal

That’s what i thought, and he’s just confirmed. So something isn’t right there. Maybe i’ve tightened the skewer too much, or something else skewer related.

Will have to have a play this evening.

Do that, but after riding for 10 minutes so the trainer is warmed up

And you definitely should be able to freewheel!
