Virtual Zwift Rides

Yes, I enjoy TR…but paying for two services is a rich mans game!

On top of gym membership, training peaks, and Strava…what’s that tot up to?:money_with_wings:

Who pays for Strava :flushed:

Coming from the man that paints liquid gold onto his walls?! :joy:

You can do Trainer Road type sessions with Golden Cheetah or Velo Reality software that’s free. No idea if you can run Zwift concurrently with those but may be another option.

Only my opinion, but the ‘competitive gaming’ (@FatPom ) is the only aspect that appeals to me. Anything else, and I’ll just ride outside.

Caveat, I’m not using an FE-C smart trainer.

Three sisters route, this morning. A group ride with my club and we used the function where you only see your meet-up buddies, which was quite cool.

Yes - that appeals :+1:t3:

And @gingerbongo - I did think that as I was typing it :see_no_evil:

Jumped on the Masters 2 lap race, missed a break, found myself 20s behind the group in front, 40 seconds ahead of the one behind with a french chap who sat on the whole time so I pulled the plug after 11 miles or so

London pretzel ticked off. 8 to go, including the 2 biggies.
Need a plan for London PRL, Cause ain’t fancying that any time soon.

Im quite new to Zwift but think maybe had first celeb/pro encounter today.

Was riding Muir and the mountain, about 7km in along came a cyclist F Duffy with a Bermuda flag. We were both riding at a similar speed. Im assuming it was Flora Duffy but if so she must have been having an easy Sunday ride. Whereas I was basically bleeding out of my eyeballs to stay in her draft.

For all of a minute or so, and then off she went.

Another 5 hr week for me, all on turbo - 3 rides. I actually felt like going for a run today. Which is a massive shift in motivation compared to the last few weeks. I didn’t actually go, as I had stuff to do. But I wanted to! :joy:

I’ve got zero interest in, or enthusiasm for, running at present.

I do however, seem to have developed a massive urge to take up windsurfing again after not stepping on a board in 15 years!

Know the feeling. No wind here… or at least I thought so, friend of mine posted pictures of conditions at Uri (about 45min drive), looked epic. It’s a thermal wind that funnels up the lake between mountains on either side.

Anyone know longer term how much race calendars tend to vary on Zwift?

Basically I’m stuck doing my rides before work for the foreseeable so really only races starting between 7 and 7:45 work. When I first started there was that classics series which was rotating round different worlds so thought that was ‘normal’. However that’s stopped and am noticing the past couple of weeks the calendar is pretty much the same each week at those times.

Yes it’s a bit repetitive; although less events means more participants per event?

I got overtaken on the Alp a few days ago by D. Martin, A. Yates, S. Yates and R. Uran, plus a bunch of other pros whom I didn’t recognise. I don’t really follow pro cycling. Still it was kinda cool

Hah… in my case, it was a friend on Gran Canaria, who said he’s delighted to be out on the water again, and it was 26 deg, logo high and 23kts… sounds rubbish…

Just did my first race on Zwift, Yorkshire 1 lap of a 13km course, I selected “cat C”, not sure if that was correct.

It was… fun! Starting to get the hang of group dynamics, ended up in 2nd group but got dropped in the final km. Trying to hold a wheel meant I averaged 249W for 22 minutes and so a new FTP of 237W claims Zwift, which is 3.48W/kg

I don’t know if this is going to spoil things but my 16 and 20 year old sons are currently using the same Zwift account - luckily we all weigh the same at 68kg +/- 1kg, although I’m by far the ugliest.

Anyway I am liking it :+1:

Well done on the ride, and new FTP, by the sound of it, you are right on the Cat C to Cat B threshold, 3:48w/kg is certainly Cat B

You should join Zwift Power, it will determine what Cat you should be racing at, and will provide results by Cat, eliminating cheaters

It’s your duty as an old person to keep the young’uns duly in their place
