I thought it was the one that went back up to trafalgar I pushed harder to be nearer the front and played the truck to stay on, so also had no chance in the final K.
All ready for later? Should be a fun one
Nope!
It doesnt help my team seemingly rotates which of the sandbagging cat As we have in the squad.
Constant race chat/tactics about just how hard they’ll be going to shatter the pack.
Considering last week was a sub 3 minute effort - which then took me 5+ mins to get back into the back. 2x3:30 efforts plus the lump before is not filling me with confidence. Just hoping the bit of draft makes the difference.
Hopefully got some nice Sauce windows to show FTS and FAL a bit more clearly tho - cause obviously its important keeping track of 0 points
Pfft, bet they don’t do twice being paced by fruity
How’d you do @Jgav ?
I tried to be as conservative as possible through first 2 sprints. Felt a little hard to rejoin the pack.
Didn’t feel great first time up the climb, but found myself in a great position and was 2nd FTS (not sure it survived tho).
Was in a world of pain, but seemed to be in the mix for 50% and got a few top 5s.
Died a death 1km from finish when the pace went up. Was spent from the last sprint.
Average HR 175 and max of 191
Put a shift in.
Longer version. Good start got some FAL and then let the front pack go on the climb. Ride 2 up with a teammate and came 19th.
My current set-up is an old bike on a Neo. I crashed the bike a few years back so I can’t ride it outside. The mechanics are not too good, chain slips, can’t shift to big ring and a local bike chap said the bottom bracket needs replacing. I can get by if I stay seated, but if I stand to sprint the bike crumbles!
I’ve been looking for an old bike but nothing out there atm for < 200. I’m wondering whether to sell the Neo and buy a smart bike instead, does anyone have one of these? How do you find it?
I have a Kickr Bike V1 that I bought in Black Friday Sale just over a year ago when Wahoo launched the Kickr V2, so it cost £1500, about half price, but not cheap
It is so much better than a bike on my Tacx Neo 2T. Last month, the shifter stopped working, so I had to use the Tacx, and it felt awful.
I fixed my Kickr, sprayed switch cleaner into the ports on the junction box and it was fine. However, reading the forums, this does seem to be a weakness
You can digitally set whatever gearing you like: I love riding low cadence, so I have mu Kickr setup with a 64/48 chainring, and 10-30 12 speed cassette. Did the Alpe yesterday, and gearing was low enough (Zwift difficulty at default 50%)
Afraid I went all in the first time and bought a Tacx neo bike. My husband and I just both have a dislike for trainers so didn’t even consider it. And it has been a great purchase! It’s gotten me back on the bike when I hit an all time low in annual mileage in 2022 - a whopping 20 miles.
I bought the previous model with a nice discount, so like @Matthew_Spooner paid around £1,500 for it. The prices have jumped up quite a lot with the new models. I’d probably hesitate to pay that much now.
Occasionally there’s a resistance/gearing issue on ours when you’ve been doing high power or low cadence stuff. But that seems to have resolved itself for now . They still take up a fair bit of space which is obviously a permanent use of space unlike the trainer but I’m happy with it. Combined with Apple TV for zwift it is a good setup!
@Matthew_Spooner thanks, good to hear you’ve found the set-up better, and a decent deal! I was looking at the Kickr Shift which is 14% off at Sigma. However, I can see some users have belt issues Wahoo KICKR BIKE SHIFT: Hands-On and Initial Thoughts | DC Rainmaker Did you gain/lose any FTP after making the switch?
@awildt thanks I went from a broken Direto to Neo and wish I’d gone for a bike now…
Another advantage of the bike is to adjust the position so my kids could have a go.
Just spotted that Decathlon have a smart bike for £999 Ultra-Silent, Smooth, Effective, 1500W, Zwift-Connected Challenge Bike DOMYOS - Decathlon
Looks like it’s not available yet, potenitally in the next month, and I can’t find any test reviews.
Wow that’s quite impressive from decathlon. With really good reviews too. I’d consider that if I had to. Only query for me is whether you have to use a tablet for zwift interaction or does it cope with Apple TV - I assume it does.
ETA: doesn’t seem to be available in the UK just yet.
I have a Stages SB20 smart bike I got last year. Brand new from Stages only cost £1699 at the time which I got on 0% finance as well so just £160 upfront and then £127/month for a year
Way better than a bike on a trainer. Really easy to adjust position and goes small enough that my 8yo can just about ride on it and plenty big enough for me at 188cm. Much easier to clean and very quiet. I actually have mine set up in our living room and can quite happily ride it whilst others are watching TV and it doesn’t bother them at all - I can also ride it at 5am without waking anyone up. Just like the others you can set up any gearing you like - you can mimic Shimano, Campag and SRAM or have a custom set up. I use the ‘dream drive’ which has 50 gears. Effectively it makes any gradient disappear since there’s always a gear high enough or low enough for any cadence. It has gear shifters on the hoods and the drops and you can additionally buy extra shifters if you want to put aero bars on. It also allows you to change crank length easily if you want
I would definitely recommend getting one over a normal turbo. I use it so much more as it is just there and instant to connect to Zwift and it really requires virtually no maintenance / setup
Same with my Wattbike but no resistance which I actually prefer, until I’m pedalling hard downhill while people super tuck
Just switch your Zwift weight to compensate!!!
Zwift seemingly wants to update everytime I start up up atm.
I was looking to get a watt bike Atom but as mentioned they have jumped up in price over the last couple of years.
Will see once we’ve moved. We’re going to have a spare room room downstairs in the new gaff which will probably be an office but I’m hoping for a permanent turbo space too.
Installed Sauce for Zwift yesterday. So useful being able to see what the group is doing and exactly where everyone is.
