Dont ever try and play Microsoft Flight Sim. Fire it up for a quick flight. Hold on, there is 100 petabyte update to install first.
This is why I use the Android version. Was previously always waiting for an update and they seem to takes ages on desktop
Return of ZRL… and another set of watt monsters in our league.
Probably the most sedate start I’ve known. But my god the effort up the start of the epic.
Over 2 minute 30 at over 5.5wkg…reckon the first half was closer to 7.
Still not enough and 24 got away.
14 of us burning matches to get back on during the coastal rode.
Absolutely nothing left when we hit the sprint.
1st 374 points
2nd 373
3rd 372 (us)
Absolutely gutted.
I’m on hols this week and TBH my team has pretty much fallen apart, some people are even choosing to swim on Tuesday evening FFS
After a day at work with a lot of driving for a meeting which was cancelled.
Cat C team. Got on the bike to warm up with 10 mins to go, nice chatting to the tea. Went semi hard at the start but it settled quickly. Big surge where I hit 400w but settled into a steady 300w effort on the hill and a few still got away. One of our team went with it.
I was in the second group but just three and a team mate was 6 seconds back so waited for her and brought us back to a group 4 which then became 10 as some more caught. Rolling road and I sprinted for what was 2nd in the group and joint 11th overall. Not a bad first outing out. One of our team got 4th and the person with me came in 19th which is tough but she’s a lightweight female so never going to do well in a sprint.
I knew that course wouldn’t be good for me - that short climb requires a massive 60s power, if you can hang on for the first minute and pick up the draft over the bridge you are fine… unfortunately for me, despite doing 6.1wkg for the first 2 minutes, I just couldn’t hang on. Finished in 50th place, despite putting in a solid effort
I was 5.95 for the first 2 minutes and still got gapped by 24 Cat Bs
Absolutely mental.
I don’t understand how Bs can do those numbers and still ride on over the bridge.
I struggle to understand how that is cat B
I know that I am a diesel and will always struggle on this type of course as a Cat A… however, sounds like I would struggle as a Cat B
I know Jorgan jokes with me, but if I’m a top (sandbagging) B… There’s plenty gaming the system.
The bandings have definitely changed making B and C more competitive whilst diluting cat A even further.
One team has absurd numbers, numerous pushing 4.5wkg for 20+ mins. Yet not being upgraded.
Only the winner last night succumbed to a power violation and got upgraded.
20:20 video time… Watch me just get mullered

Think I got gapped over the bridge @Jgav .
HR was at max. Couldn’t push over FTP.
Watched that bit. You did really well on the climb then bridge. It started to string out and then the front were able to hold power. It snapped just after the bridge and you can see your power drop at that point where it’s clear a group has got away.
I normally go to hard on that climb at the start then blow after the last hairpin.
Tried to start a bit easier, but wasn’t expecting to be in the 50s.
Was hoping they would come back. Hindsight says I should’ve pushed on, but my HR suggests otherwise.
Regretting using my aero over the top too…esp as I was in a group that contained 3 of the winning team in the end.
But difficult to compute that in the moment (they also weren’t the danger team).
Got beaten by @Jorgan in a lunchtime zwift race today. Couldn’t keep the power on after the final climb.
I thought I had a low maxHR but yours is incredibly low with a max in this race at 111! What’s your max? It must be down at about 120bpm. Anyway, good attack.
That’s my crappy Optical HRM (watch). It under reads cycling and over reads running
I knew just where to attack
After many failed or disappointing Alp rides, did the TdZ race. 30k of flat before Alp.
Lots more attacks on flat than I expected.
Hit the climb with most of pack. Plan was for 250w, not entirely sure I’d maintain it.
First corner, AVG at 270 and rapidly going backwards
Made a friend and kept it steady, AVG down to 265 but holding. Lost power briefly near corner 8 but got going and my bff even waited for me
Started to pick a few off, into top 10.
No idea on ETA as they don’t show in a race. 50:24 for the climb. 3rd best ever for me. Take the drop out and would’ve been my 2nd best.
Starting to feel back to normal after last year’s injury and illness
My excuse is I thought the finish was the same run in as the first loop, so I was waiting for the climb before the out and back to the 1km banner.
And the only power up I got was a ghost. Not much good when my max sprint doesn’t get me out of the pack.
Martoche looks like he was a ghost throughout, 0bpm!
I’ve been enjoying zwift sessions despite not being able to stand up on the pedals (my chain slips). I’m a pedal smashing so I’m hoping it’s teaching me better technique. Got my eye on a few Ebay deals, hopefully I can replace my bike with one that works.
