What bike? Everyone has a bike opinion, give us your best. I need a new one

I’m probably buying some Shimano Tri shoes off him next week!

Right slightly more downscale than some of the above. Want (rather than need) a new commuter.

Currently on a Norco search 2016 Tiagra (running on Conti 4 seasons 28mm)

Things I dont like…
Weight - feels cumbersome
Handlebars - 42mm always feels just a bit too wide
Cables - messy and stick out before they go back into the frame
Brakes - mechanical

Things I do like…
Its bulletproof
Tiagra is fine for commute
Brakes - mechanical is easy to adjust if not great for stopping
Its black
Good toe overlap clearance

So wishlist.
Must:
Sub 10kg
Disc brakes of some type
Tiagra or higher
Mudguard mounts (I hate the things… but need em)
28mm+ tyre clearance
Tidy cables
Standard sized bars and seatpost

Would like
Not white
40cm bars

So some options ;

  • the i21 wheel upgrade
With wheels and guards - £1800 (white :face_with_peeking_eye:). 40cm bars

£1600 v.tidy cables. Handlebar shape?? 9.8kg. Black. Needs mudguard mount sold separately.

£1600. Not as tidy as the Ribble but more than good enough. 40cm up to 58 size (which chap at work who is same size has just brought). 9.85kg

Anyone throw anything else into the mix or any comments on the above?

I’m still really impressed with the Tribans we bought for the boys 5 years ago. 2 out of 3 are commuting on them now. We went for the RC500 model at around £600 but for £899 the RC520 comes with 11 speed 105, disc brakes, and is not white, although does weigh in at about 10.5kg so maybe a touch heavier than you’d like?

(edit: I suspect a chunk of the weight is in the wheels and factory tyres, maybe could be under 10kg if upgraded those)

Prob as bigger issue is the front end. With lights and camera - I’m forever battling cable management and that looks as bad as the Norco. Why I think the Ribble appeals above.
I dunno why weight matters so much - esp with lugging a latop and luggage around… but it just feels a chore to ride.
Want something I don’t hate quite as much !!

Here you go @mw22 a bike with a cleaner front end that meets all your criteria

If you don’t mind shuffling the decimal point one place to the left… :exploding_head:

Like the look of that Ribble bike , see what you mean about the clean front end.

Anything stopping you on that one?

I was literally just having a proper look and then…saw the stem - my garmin ain’t fitting on that!
Can’t do out front as my big light will go front and centre. Hmm

Its also got a square seatpost… which “might” be fine. But just generally adds faff to trying to get things to fit.

Have you looked at the Canyon Endurace AllRoad?

Ticks alot -tho weight pushing 11kg probably putting me off.
Never heard of Shimano cues… off to google that.

Some of the Boardman bikes are decent, not sure about mudguards though.

Dolan?

Handlebar width though & I guess a wheel upgrade would drop it below 10kg.

Can spec with 1x chainring - thats good.

Whats that about!! Think can spec it down - but only to 42cm.
Do they measure differently? Thought it might just be gravel - but seems to be the same across the range. Titanium one is niiiiice :eyes:

my commuter is Canyon Endurance, I don’t like it very much. Heavy

Merlin.

No idea about handlebars & guessing wheels are heavy.

I know some can be sniffy about Merlin branded bikes, but I’ve got an older Merlin CX bike & the frame was a Ridley X-Fire job lot they got & over the years I’ve replaced pretty much everything now.
