That would surprise me. It sold out within seconds for the original 2020 race.

I would expect a fair number of spots to open eventually, as IMJ would certainly indicate a fair number of people got refunds or took the UK voucher, but as Adam says, I’d not expect them to open those until after the original race date.

Don’t know why I didn’t do this as soon as I saw the 2022 IM Switzerland date on Nirvana’s site but checked IM Vitoria-Gastiez and France and the dates are 10th July and June 26 respectively. Going to check logistics for each.

Triathlon X, pretty hardcore ironman, and last ever one next year?

Swim can be anything :joy:, bike was 116 when I did it although I think it’s usually 112, and run is about 27 from Ambleside to summit of Scafell Pike and back. Lovely little event.

Was considered, June though is probably too early. Settling on the Brutal though, similar concept.

Shame, was top of list of ones that really inspired/intrigued me wanting to do for the day out rather than as a competition.

Looking at hotels and starting prices at tier 3 due to defferals for IM Vitoria and France I reckon it might be the Outlaw again for me. Hopefully have a bit more luck than the previous 2 attempts.

whats outlaw like as a race & logistics accom

Logistics is easy. You can park on site, it’s a bit of a walk to transition but not too bad. The swim is easy to navigate as it’s a rectangular regatta lake. The bike is pretty flat with a small climb and some gently rolling sections. The end of it is a short section through the private grounds and the road is horrible but there’s not a lot to be done about it. The run is alright but you do have your fill of running around the lake when you’re really tired (it’s not just around the lake).

The organisation by OSB is excellent IME.

I have stayed in a hotel in Nottingham and it is a short drive to the venue.

Like @pacha said.

Parking is a lottery.
I was about a mile away, and was about the first athlete on site. Very annoyed.
People arriving ten minutes later were RIGHT next to transition for post race ease.

This year everything was posted out.
Which was mint. I wish everyone would go back to this. I’d pay a fiver for it.
Racking is easy. Transition was HUGE this year, hopefully it goes back to how it was for future races.

Swim is super simple out 2km, back 1.9km.
Yes. It’s always long.
Unless it’s windy, in which case it’s a two lapper.
You cannot go wrong. Just keep the rowing buoys to one side, as they’re rock hard if you swim into them.

Bike? Simple. One small hill which has a massively satisfying descent.
Some massive sections of road have been resurfaced and are amazingly quick.
Some are still hideous (I lost my bottle twice)
The road back through the hall is rough as arses, but allows the race to be held, so :man_shrugging:t4:
Everyone has to do it.
Support is sparse on course.
Very sparse.

Run?
You need mental strength, as it’s monotonous.
I did all of my long runs as 4 lappers to get used to it again.
But it’s hideous.
The lake is 2.5km ish long.
And you run round it lots.
The new whitewater addition was great, I hope they keep that.
I also enjoy running on the embankment :+1:t3:

I’d recommend the race, but be aware that support is sparse.

Bolton is so much better in that respect.
For the two? I’d say Bolton wins it :see_no_evil:

Interesting. Is that a lot due to the support? Looking at the bike course profile and it looks a like the hills we have around here and in the Dales. Would you say that is correct? I always discounted Bolton as it’s, well Bolton but the ease of travel might make that a goer for 2022.

Yes. 100%.

I had a disastrous race, and the weather was abysmal, but the support is immense.

The hills are all fairly easy, not hard, just relentless.

It’s totally different on race day.
The bit from Rivington until you leave Bolton is traffic light central, but on race day you just let rip as it’s net downhill, totally superb.
I was doing 50kmh + in the wet On a deflating tyre.

The support I received from the race team was also great :+1:t3:

But it’s Ā£200 more.

Also, the views are incredible on the bike.
Far better than Outlaw.

Potential Outlaws are safe

…glad I’d not entered

Blazing sunshine and sunburn for all. I guarantee it :sunglasses:

Outlaw it is then

ETA: Actually I think it will be Bolton for me also. Cost and lack of decision from family about going to Vitoria just simplifies it for me.
