Your Kona Picks - 2019

No surprise there really.

I’m pretty certain the year he got popped for blood doping he won a tt in the tour at an average speed of circa 50 kph.

IIRC it had a mountain in the middle of it…

That guy on that day, cheat or not, was probably faster than any triathlete on a bike that’s ever lived.

You only slip so far … I’m sure he knows how to train, best kit, huge engine and background in elite cycling.

I’m not inferring that’s he’s still using but if you can get round Pro bikie testing for years, the age group protocol is a joke.

30s in, Ali shoulder bumps Jan during the interview, a little flare from Jan but nothing much in it.

It looks to me that Ali is looking away to his left and I would give hime benefit of the doubt. I have seen him a fair bit away from racing, mostly at the pool or local running races and he was always a normal bloke. The other lads in the team took the mick out of him as much as anyone else.

Re: Vino, remember he still works for the Astana team and likely trains with them and could easily make sure he ‘prepares’ properly.

I spoke to soon, SlowTwitch May have coped but its all kicked off on IMJ😂

Just seen Jan’s BwB, he says he saw ABs tyre pretty flat at 20k. So he rode all the way to Hawi front pack, another 80k ish, on a tyre that was visibly soft. Then dropped the hammer with the new wheel to bridge back up.

That would cook pretty much anyone.

Yep, just watched it myself

I can’t quite get why Alistair would express anger at being left behind while dealing with the flat

Frodo in the press conference about if he was sad that Lange quit - “No not at all. That’s up to him, personally I don’t like quitting and like to take the punch but that is his decision. Honestly I don’t really give a shit”. :joy:

Sebi says “Good answer” and Hoff, ToD & Wurf all laughing.

AB has just posted the video on his Instagram stories saying he has apologised to Frodeno, but to me there was absolutely nothing in it, crowded finish area and he just brushes Frodeno on his way past. Big fuss about nothing

Yeah i just saw that. AB really doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy that would do that anyway. He’d more likely give himself 20 lashes of the whip for being so weak rather than taking it out on a competitor … who was going to be unstoppable that day regardless of anyone else!

Men’s podium aged 38, 39 and 35, all previous Kona podium finishers. Experience counts!

Is there a way of seeing this without setting up an Instagram account?

I’ve not seen all these post race interviews yet, but they sound good.

Regarding Brownlee. He has ages yet, like LIONel. AB needs to remember Frodeno didn’t win Kona until 7 years after Beijing, so that still gives him another 4! LIONel just needs to grow a moustache again

Skipper is going to be on the Oxygen Addict podcast this week

It’s all over for AB according to ST though mate.

Apparently he doesn’t have the mental capacity to learn anything and will never have any patience for such a race. sigh

I really think Ali should concentrate on 70.3 domination and the WC for a season or two before worrying about a Kona top-5. It’s a well trodden path, particularly by the Germans like Frodeno, Kienle & Raelert

This may or may not work:

You also have to think if he hadn’t flatted and put that surge in to get back to the lead group things might have been a bit different.

and wait for Frodo to retire?! haha

Yes, that must have been one helluva effort to get back to them in such a short space of time.
