Who’s this, Talbot Cox? That’s a proper ‘hobby job’ he has; is he a trust fund kid
yeah that’s the one! And yeah, certainly comes across that way. Cos i doubt that job is paying for full year’s international travel!!
I’ll be honest, watching Kona every year is about the only time I really follow triathlon events; I don’t even listen to podcasts, let alone watch LIONel’s vlogs. I’m all about doing my training and the odd event, then getting on with life …oh, and TT of course
I probably should listen to more podcasts & watch vlogs, it’s just a habit I guess. I think I just find LIONel a bit grating the way his vids are produced. I’d rather ignore ‘commercial’ LIONel so I can be on his side come the Big Dance.
I think Lange’s chances are weather dependent. Another calm year and he’s running through to the front again, enough wind and he’s too far down.
A quiet lunch here so went over a couple of Lionel’s pre-Kona videos from last year, for his sake I really hope someone has made him tone things down a bit.
He had a bad day at Mt Tremblant, did two training sessions in the week after and then did a circuit-based ‘test day’ a week after the IM. 4k non-wetsuit swim @ 54min, 112x 1mile oval bike @ 4h 10m, 21k run @3.46/k.
The week leading up to Kona race day he did 4k swim, 112 mile bike @ 4h 40m and 25k run @ 4.02/k.
Ridiculous way of doing things to my un-trained as a coach way of thinking.
It’s an entertainment business and Lionel was magnificent last year. Basically he went bonkers after getting ripped a new one by Jan at Oceanside 70.3, it was a 6 month car crash from then on, all played out on his vids.
I like the fella
If he’s great he films it
If he’s crap he films it
His 14 days out from Kona exploits last year were the stuff of legend… not in a good way
He is as transparent as you could possibly get.
He endears himself to his fans who are willing him to have a “ float” day at Kona.
Unfortunately he will probably always miss out / get run down.
If I was God he would be a very close second to Ali B in a few weeks
Dave Mac 3rd… again.
Not watched any of his vids, but I’d wonder if its partly a way of getting his sponsors some air time too. Companies must question their investment when IM coverage only shows lead bike, and not many people watch any race footage anyway. Need to find new ways to get exposure.
I like a bit of Lionel and a few podcasts. Would love to see Ali do well but I would rather see David Mc and Joe do something special as I feel they have put in years of work in Kona and I would like to see that pay off.
So top three in the men’s all Brits would be great. but I think Lange and Frodo top two with Cam W in third.
Girls after Ryf I have no idea
One thing is for sure …I will be asleep before the men make T2 that’s a given
What odds would I get for a GB 1/2/3?
Not sure the order, but McNamee, Skipper, Brownlee.
You heard it here first (probably not first, but I am claiming it)!
Huge …
Not impossible but … well pretty impossible.
Be good though …
Regardless of their overall position it should be a good battle to be first Brit home. Barring disasters I’d have all 3 in the top 10.
MaNamee’s proven 2:45 Kona run is such a weapon, he’ll be last to T2 but close enough to capitalise on any overbiking to close a swim deficit (Skipper), or marathon distance in heat issues (Brownlee). Brownlee first to T2 but the run in Kona conditions such a step into the unknown for him.
I’ll go
- Skipper
- Brownlee
- McNamee
Skipper will latch onto the slow swimming Uber bikers and put just enough time into McNamee to hold him off, and overhaul a fading Brownlee in the Energy lab.
The guy who’s come third overall the last two years is going to be third Brit this year …!?
The more you look at this race the more open it is.
Ladies
Ryf
Haug
Charles
Who knows but that’s my call. It was a runner’s year last year with bike conditions easy. Made for McNamee. Skipper wasn’t far behind (7th) and he was unlucky in that bikers he would have expected to paceline with from his swimgroup had disasters (Kienle, Lionel) so he solo’d a lot of the bike IIRC.
Brownlee just a wild guess, anything could happen…I’m just guessing he may play it smarter and more cautious than he does usually which helps his chances of a decent finish position.
LIONel is at Augusta 70.3 in about 4 hours.
Up against Tim O’Donnell and a few other decent names…should be a good show of form for him.
The Lion wins, 23 min swim, 2:03 bike, 1:12 run.
Impressive effort by the looks, must check ST to see if that’s earned him the win in Kona…
Holy sheeetttt!!!
That’s shifting some.
He’s won Kona off that, for sure.
Cam for the win, if not Frodo.
Can’t see past Daniella for the ladies,
McNamee, Lange, Brownlee
Lucy, others
