Zwift Alternatives

BTF and BC members get decent TP discounts.

I’ll probably post this in the TrainingPeaks codes page as well but I got a black friday email offer from TrainingPeaks - CYBER2024 gives 25% off for a year. If you put in an address in a state such as Alaska (https://www.fakepersongenerator.com/random-alaska-address-generator) you’ll get 0% tax.

No idea if it would accept my card payment thought as it’s supposed to be the billing address and it depends on what checks they make. But if it did go through that would be around £75 for a year - which includes Indievelo when that is no longer free after March 2025. Zwift is £179.99 for a year.

I’m considering this as I’m not using Zwift anywhere near as much as I used to.

I had my first ride in Training peaks Virtual last week, seem fine… just got to work out how to upload to Strava.

I ended up downloading the file from TrainingPeaks and uploading it to strava manually. Not sure I’ll bother in the future.

My Indie velo/TP Virtual syncs with Strava automatically?

Why? Just connect your account, am I missing something that isnt available to newer members?

You cant connect to Garmin Connect Btw, they, Garmin, arent allowing new connections. If you try you get that message.

Huh… it didn’t prompt me to do that when setting up, I’ll have a look

To be fair you have to look for it. Go through the settings, your profile etc to get it setup. It doesnt walk you through setup with a setup wizard. Great piece of software. Love the CP model and real life feel dynamics when riding with others, much more realistic than that nonsense Zwift (Mario cart)

Ive not figured out the racing on TPV, or is there not as many races? Either way, thats the but i need to figure out. Best bit of virtual cycling.

I’ve installed TPV and it’s slow.
The menu is so slow.

I’m on an AppleTV.
Is the slovenliness normal?

It’s very responsive on PC. Which doesn’t really answer your question.

Quick enough on PC for me. Not sure why it would be slow on ATV.

There’s an unofficial FB group for it which may have some information.

Try it on Pear TV :pear:

More seriously, Apple TV was in beta “founders club” those paying for development before the TP buy out.
Apple TV app was paused / not available, but due to being to most requested feature of TPV was fast tracked. I expect it will be approved in a timely manor, very quick to respond to customer feedback… hence fast tracking the Apple TV app… originally not scheduled until next year I think.

I’m going to give this a go this morning again … Zwift has now lapsed.

Having issues with TPV - get constant power and HR dropouts. Thought I’d solved the issue but it repeated today making riding frustrating.

Tempted to try MyWhoosh as I’d installed it but not actually created an account

I’ve used TPV on ATV for 5 or 6 rides now, no issues so far but not done any events just free riding.

I’ve not tried any events either in TPV (on a PC) but mostly use their pace partner rides. Either my concentration is poor (YouTube on another screen) but they seem more erratic that the ones on zwift. I know zwift changed a few months ago so they push a bit more going uphill or something and ease off on descents which seemed to work for me.

Because I’m often dropping behind it’s a good workout trying to get back on. Maybe as there’s fewer riders it just feels like harder work. It is however ticking all the boxes for me right now.

And with the 40% BC Gold discount and no 20% sales tax from living in British Columbia, it’s about £6pcm … with Training Peaks :exploding_head::scream:

The world is a bit small and races are mostly bots unless you pick selectively.

It’s got promise but wouldn’t keep my interest long term as it currently stands.

edit: still better than staring at a TrainerRoad line…

Nope.

Utterly shite. No wonder it’s free. It doesn’t even work.

13 minutes wasted trying to get the menu to work. Then when it did, it couldn’t find my turbo BTE signal, despite my phone and tablet seeing it.

Uninstalled and riding a free 25km in Zwift within three minutes instead.

Also; if I’ve a scheduled Workout in TrainingPeaks, why isn’t that the first option to just click and ride??? It is (just about) on Zwift (give a take two button clicks)
