Official results will be on the WTRL site. ZP doesnt know what your starting delta was
Well that was great. I was looking forward to that all day. Legged it home from work at 6.30 and then was trying to figure out discord. I couldnât hear much the realised earphones were the way. After that ok.
Little burst of power needed at the start because my pedals had gone to sleep.
Spent most of the rest of the race hanging on by a thread until the last 2km when the thread snapped!
New FTP of 269W⌠Thanks gents!
TRO if that was you hawking your lungs up I can arrange a Corona test
We were Dqâd, well DQD. Iâve a feeling itâs because we has 9 riders registered. Anyhow we finished in 40:58 which places us 121st overall from 448. Felt like we worked well together.
It felt like we worked well together, but would we have been even faster if we had systematically taken turns on the front then slowly dropped back - like pro bike teams in the TDF etc?
DQ after all that effortâŚ,.
Hope you didnât get DQâd?
One extreme to another for me, got there and went in the start pen and was on the pairing screen but didnât get any sound etc. off discord so wasnât sure if youâd started or not.
When I got going I was 50 seconds down so knew Iâd never get back on and bailed.
I think itâs safe if I avoid these in future!
The guy who works in IT
3rd time lucky Iâm sure Jeff!
Maybe I should update my LinkedIn profile
If you are on Discord you can also have Spotify on and hear the music with people talking over the top of it
I was in the pen for 13 minutes with my team and just as we went off my power dropped, they put 20 seconds into me straight away and I was obviously I was never going to catch them so I went for a spin for an hour.
Gutted.
I had the music coming from the TV and earphones/mic in the phone for the heavy breathing lol
The winning team did it in 23:47 on the WTRL website
Thatâs an average of 43mph / 69 kph
lol itâs utterly shameless
We wouldâve easily beat that, had we not cruised around waiting for IT Jeff to catch us up
Missed the go by 10 seconds, couldnât make the time up, latched on to the next group but you were steaming away from them, so rode solo for remaining 23km or so listening to heavy breathing over white noise
Bad luck!
Sounds like we have enough for two teams next week. Maybe one at 18:00 and one at 19:00, so nutters can double upâŚ
Just a couple of thoughts from me about last nights race;
- with the team that caught us, obviously we thought they were going to pass and fly right by. Clearly they emptied half the tank just catching us. Is there anything we could do different? I know someone said at the time âlets make it hard for themâ - which seemed a bad idea at the time, but in hindsight - had we emptied the tanks a bit, maybe that bit after at 150w wouldnt have felt quite so slow - tho they may have taken even longer to get going.
- we couldve done with grouping a bit before we made any overtakes. So easy for the front ride to want to chase a straggler - and it gave us a nice train effect, but once or twice it seemed some of us got stuck on the power of the rider we were overtaking and split us a bit (or anyone not in lead position needs to be aware they may need to up power a bit as we go past)
Interesting.
I had a thought:
We werenât particularly organised in taking pulls at the front; I reckon weâd be quicker rotating a very specific turn at the front before drifting back although obviously we did have strong riders doing longs pulls at the front.
IE target the lead rider doing say 4.5w/kg or something (which would have those is the draft at 3.6-8 ish) our turns would be different lengths but it would keep the group moving at optimum speed. Not sure how easy that would be on Zwift.
Youâd need to be very watchful, so when youâre the lead rider (avatar drops down) you push higher watts until turn is over and back in the draft (avatar sits up).
Shame you got DQâd. Did you realise you had 9 signed up? When Iâd looked, it only seemed like 8?
Few things from the one I did.
- We did find it easier (and faster from a training ride) to do traditional TTT âturnsâ. We announced over discord who was up, and they then pulled. Knowing you had a period of recovery in the draft afterwards allowed you to go a bit deeper. If you were feeling strong, you just went longer rather than harder. If you needed to skip a turn, you just said so. Zwift insider did some TTT analysis. In third wheel youâre saving something like 33% power, so it is a real recovery.
- When being passed, that did cause problems (only happened once). The draft effect of the other team is huge. You arent allowed to draft them and if you do youâll get DQâd, so it was hard to drop power so much as to fall off the back.
- When passing other teams, you really need to surge a little bit to wash straight through them. The zwift gaming engine is designed to allow drafting. If youâre doing broadly similar power, it will suck you to another wheel even if you were moving faster beforehand. You need to force the game to recognise youâre moving a lot faster / putting out more power, so you blow right by them.
- Linked to the above, did you all change to similar in-game kit? Makes a massive difference if youâre all in the same jersey to stick together when passing through groups, or being passed.
Iâd like to get involved with a team if I can. If not next week, definitely the week after
