I’m up for another go. I assume the course changes each week?
One thing I need to learn is how to move from the front of the pack slowly back through the pack… cause I seem to fall like a rock then be doing more power in last position trying to keep in touch - than I had been doing on the front.
I’d be happy to be in a B team.
No we weren’t in same kit. Someone said we were like the Jamaican bobsleigh team😀
Yeh you need to speed up when going through a group even more than a solo rider because of the sticky draft. Best everyone goes 5-6wkg, then settles down after.
Good effort! The team I’m in take 1 min pulls. Works well because you know what rider you follow. Gets a bit messy later on when people want to skip and everyone’s got blurred vision
BTW the pairing screen doesn’t work for me. When I’ve tried it in the past I’ve set off! I don’t think a warm up helps me anyway.
I was dead nervous about using the pairing screen, didnt want to “Do a Jeff”
Compared to last week, that was a highly disciplined and organised (more a reflection on last week).
It was interesting to see how people’s strengths add to the group; @funkster for example is an absolute beast on the flat and able to pull at a really good speed.
I didn’t feel that our pace was being held back by anyone. My AP was 295W which is certaily not slacking, so contrary to the chat yesterday, this wasn’t a warmup pace for me, I was properly working. However, I know that some were really putting in max effort, brilliant!
The group that past us dropped 2 of their lead out riders shortly after passing, I guess they put in a massive effort to catch us. We did drop back a couple of seconds after they passed, but then we re-caught them on a small incline, this makes me think that they overcooked it a little. Its a shame as we lost 5 - 10s giving them some space
If this is going to be as popular as yesterday, we should have 2 groups. I felt that it was great fun.
Rotating on Zwift takes practice, the issue is that when you back off coming from the lead, it is too easy for the group to surge past, leaving you somewhere off the back with no chance of catching. The trick is to back off a little, then increase the power as soon as the first rider passes. I think 1 min on the front is plenty
The start is still an issue for some (not mentioning any names @jeffb). Even a couple of seconds late and it is not happening. I had no idea who was in the group, saw that we had 7 riders and thought that we were all together… clearly some more prep from leader (like realising that 9 had signed up) is required
I think all being in the same kit will help the start - also everyone tagging “TriTalk” on the zwift user name (not zwiftpower) makes it easier to recognise people in the pen at the start.
I’d already clocked whoever said they were in early, and I roughly knew where you were Matt - so I was watching and listening so I didn’t miss the go.
I definitely suffer from backing off the pace at the front and going out the back. Not just in this ride but in other stuff - I think I back off too much then suddenly have to surge - so I’m almost doing it backwards.
So, important stuff - who’s the lowest zwift level (for kit unlocks) and what Jersey we rocking next time?
Thats the other point - we seemed to want to ride and finish as a group. Which is nice and all… .but should we commit up front to some people going hard early and peeling off, or is it faster/better to remain as big as possible for longer?
Sounds like riding a paceline irl. Can’t come off the gas too much until you’re safely in the wheels.
I’ll see if I can have some sort of kid bedtime negotiations with my other half - sounds like some proper type 2 fun and I’m suffering from fomo!
haha same. But now i don’t have a turbo and cancelled my Zwift!
In the first couple of races, while working out how we organise, and don’t take things too seriously this is fine. If we split into a fast and social group, could have social as no drop (at least until the last 3k) and take no prisoners fast group… risk being that we drop too many riders and end up being too small.
Even with our disorganisation, we were almost top quartile, which is a pretty decent performance
Er… That would be me. How does orange and black suit you
Well you’re up shit creak there
Orange and black better than…
To be fair, the team averaged around 4.0w/kg which puts you in the realms of semi-decent, it’s not wonder we finished ok despite being disorganised. I saw some of the top teams all 5-5.5w/kg which as you know isn’t all that common, even on Zwift.
As it uses a normal pre-race setup, what we did was all join discord chat beforehand, have a bit of a chinwag, and then all click “join event” at the same time. With the way zwift applies a “first in to the front” stacking of racers, all joining at the same time means you are quite well bunched together in the pen already.
That might be getting to next level hair splitting, but the start is definitely the hardest part to get right. And you can waste a lot of time trying to group up. You also generally roll off pretty easy for the first 10s or so, as the timer doesnt start until a couple of hundred meters out of the start pen, from the one’s I’ve done, so still enough time to get up to speed. And doing that would make it a lot easier to group up quickly.
is this another big boo boo from Zwift then? Surely it can’t be that difficult to get teams pre registering, and then to apply the software rules to that team in the same way they do for a race?!
Especially if they want to professioanlise the whole eRacing thing.
Or am i over simplifying here?
It’s more a case of WTRL having originally come up with the TTT format by hacking the zwift game setup that was available at the time. And from what I’ve read, the regular people who TTT now kind of like the quirkiness, as it’s all part of “doing it well”.
The WTRL site even makes reference to getting your zwiftpower username in the right format beforehand as being equivalent to having to sign-on at HQ in a IRL TT event
That would be bloody amazing - but I can’t get it going!
