2020 Goals

Those aren’t real hills. This is Cotswold 113 land remember.

Did a loop on the course last week and seems to be quite a bit of new road surface too. It’s going to be quick (at the front).

Achieved goal 6 :white_check_mark:

4 wasn’t fit enough. 1h25 :x:
5, managed 18:10 :x: but then someone switched parkruns off, apparently there has been this bug going around.

I’d call that 37% given the plumber is obviously making a film somewhere

Well, I’ve technically made 2 of these, and there was a further one above about not entering an Ironman in 2020, who knows about 2021

I did get into UTMB, but that’s going to be 2022 now, and I did reach 50 somehow!

Sadly Boston got binned and I haven’t had chance for a London GFA, so that doesn’t count.

I think most of my goals have been achieved

  • Finish a Parkrun in the 18s :white_check_mark:
  • 10 mile TT in the 20s :x:
  • Enter a 50 and finish under 2 hrs :x:
  • sub 1:30 half mara (Spring) :white_check_mark:
  • 3:15 marathon (end of year) :white_check_mark:
  • top ten finish in a local sprint :x:

A mixed bag for me. Hit my 5km target back in January and last weekend for the half and mara

Entered a couple of 10s but they got canned. Managed to get a spot on the E2 50 but the miserable forecast kept me at home. The right call I think. Unfortunately no sprints entered but I’m pleased with my showings at Helvellyn and my swim and 2:27 road bike effort at the 113

Will have a think about 21 - hopefully Staffs, Wales and more of the same. Definitely a sub 3 marathon effort is in reach now

Ran exactly 2:45, but not sub. But I will take it
I did run a half in 1:16:18, which suggests a sub 2:40 is possible, hopefully Gold Coast is an option next year.
Lungs are fine and have been all year.
I ran Tarawera to qualify for the WS lottery, as it is rolled over it means I have also in the lottery for the following year, so I may not even run an ultra next year .
I didn’t do a tri, in fact I have swam only 750m all year. I did however come 3rd in my AG at the NZ National Sprint duathlon. (small population helps), so almost a fail there!
My new goal is 6500k, of which I think I have 160k left to go, so about 10 a day…

Wasn’t there going to be a televised ParkRun smack down, too? Think that needs to be a major goal for ‘21!

Managed to do the Pilgrim out of that list.

GBUltra Scotland 100 and Rose of the Shires rolled over to 2021

Didn’t do anything else much

There was…

I just took a look at my strava and i had set a couple of arbitrary targets for run and cycling distance for the year.

So in the interests of keeping me motivated for the rest of the month i’ve tweaked them a tad to give me a bit of a goal:

  • Run 1,300 kms for the year
Currently on 1,222 so 78km in 17 days needed … which would normally not be a problem but i’ve only been running once or twice a week for the past 6 months, so hopefully this will keep me motivated and moving. So 6.5 x 12km runs (easy pace, one hour) by the end of the year. Still shouldn’t be too tricky.

  • Cycle 4,000 kms for the year
Ok, so a lot of this has been on Zwift, so the distance has to be taken with a pinch of salt. I’m a tad behind on this one, currently at 3,743km. So 15kms a day needed, which seems straightforward but i’ll likely not ride at least half of the days available. Going for a Xmas ride with a couple of mates from work tomorrow, and am planning on riding to and from our meetup point, so should be close to 100km. That’ll give me a bit of a booster to hitting my target. Maybe a couple of weekend rides around 50km as well and i should be good.

I’ll start a 2020 summary thread later, as i’ve been looking at my bike/run graphs. Probably of no interest to anyone else, but then what’s this forum about if not to make random musings about your own personal training goals in public!

I can’t remember what my goals were. I think one was to ‘get a job’

It was …!

I remember that one, but had to look in my complex training tool ( book ) to view mine.

I got offered a job in Aus so that was my main goal. :white_check_mark:
Hopefully have the savings to make the move without touching other savings account which was house deposit, although paying for quarantine and current flight extortion might eat into that a little. :white_check_mark:

Taupo 70.3 WC would have been an experience, but I’ve been much happier just training for enjoyment and health :white_check_mark:

Performance targets of run <17/36/80 have been bumped to next year.

If you think the flights are extortionate, wait until you meet the ATO

Seriously, you’ll have a great adventure. (avoid the Crazy Horse )

Extortionate in the sense that some people are paying multiples of what they would have expected to pay pre-covid.

Still haven’t figured out the reference, but it should have come with a NSFW warning from Google :joy:

true. I don’t want you sacked before you start!
