Yeah they haven’t sent an email yet, hopefully they’ll find a way to go ahead with it.
My mate has signed for dalesman full
Is this the same company ?
Yes, looks like they’ve also paused entries for that.
A few of us are looking at it… I’m not race fit… but it’s not a race!
Someone saw a similar mail when they went to enter…
This year is a write off race wise.
At least were all alive I guess.
It’s heading that way, I’m not sure how Weymouth will go ahead, even with a reduced field and closed roads etc. I’m guessing they’ve got >1500 entrants which probably makes it harder than say Dalesman with ~500 over 3 different races and start times.
Looks look they’ve re-opened Helvellyn but not Dalesman.
Hmm, maybe I should start training again then
How can it?
Whilst some pools have re-opened, many have not.
Swim is a single loop ![]()
Bike is a single loop ![]()
Run is 7 (!!!) times up and down the promenade (3.5 laps of 3km out and back) ![]()
If the run was a single loop and people actually seeded correctly fastest to slowest, it should work?
It’d take 2hrs 5mins to set everyone off at 5 second intervals…so you’d have the fastest biker coming back as the slowest swimmer was leaving :. It’d have to be split transitions.
That’s a weekend I’m available.
It’s an easy M6 drive, under a ton, but those bike hills in the wet?
No thanks!
The only dodgy descent is down Kirkstone, most of the other descending is on the A66 and from Dunmail which are generally straight. I take it easy down them anyway.
For some reason I thought the run was 2 laps but not checked. The Bustinskin 70.3 is 2 laps but you cross the road I think, and don’t finish in the town centre.
I think they could extend the run from what I remember.
Also not sure about the start, I know they are supposed to be TT starts but wondering if the rolling start of 6 people is still permitted.
If only we had TO on the forum?
Still don’t really see it going ahead either, what about the awards & rolldown.
What, like @fatbuddha …
@jeffb you called?? I’m an experienced TO.
what’s the question?
See two posts above, it’s more curiosity really, would the 5 at a time IM rolling start be permitted under the currently guidelines, or does it mandate 1 at a time TT format?
We were just considering likelihood of Weymouth happening.
a couple of things here.
-
Weymouth is an IM event so “technically” they run their own set of rules but I’m pretty sure this event previously has been run under BTF rules, and I would expect they will apply for a BTF permit if they decide to run the event this year.
-
Irrespective of the event getting a Covid compliant BTF permit there is still no certainty it will run as local councils/HM Gove may decide mass participation events cannot take place - that will be the decider.
Anyhoo - this is the guidance event organisers need to follow for permits under Covid rules. If they can’t comply, no permit is given.
“Open water swims must be conducted in a rolling start/time trial start system in specific start
waves. Assembly areas for competitors must have sufficient space to maintain social distancing.
The start order is to be determined by the organiser and all waiting competitors are required to
stay away from the start area until the time of their rolling start/time trial start wave.
Exact time intervals will need to be given to all competitors to be present in the swim assembly
area, and competitors are not allowed to congregate outside of these times.”
Based on that, provided they can maintain social distancing you can have a number of athletes starting at the same time provided they are in the correct wave (decided by the organiser).
Hope that helps??
From memory I think the Weymouth 70.3 run was 3 laps. Could easily extend that further up the beach though

If you can do the Fred on a road bike you’ve done a few of the climbs already, just remember you have to run after.
I’ve had some good weather on a couple times there, but equally they shortened the run one year because the last bit was so bad.
SO, @JeffB and @Adam - Helvellyn is now going ahead?
Latest I can see is this:
6hr+ drive for you @Adam ![]()
My TT bike has a 10 speed 12-30 cassette that I got for IMUK and I also sourced a 105 50-34 compact (although I believe the Ultegra 52-36 is fine for IMUK)
Descending is fine on the TT bike, I got up Birdy Brow in Clitheroe last year on a 42-28, but it was painfully slow.
OS Outdoor Leisure 5 is ideal; the map on the website is intended only as an indication and is not sufficient to navigate by effectively, you will also need a map to take with you in the race
Pfft…get the route downloaded to your watch/phone and have that speak to you - they use GPS now ![]()
(Jokes, btw)
I seem to have all of the required kit, too ![]()
I thought the run went over Striding Edge?
I can only see Swirral Edge on the OS Map of the route…
As far as I can see you can enter it.
@Doonhamer has entered and I can see him on the start list
Along with Jeff and @Chriswim
