2021 New Year’s Day 5K PB

Fatter but fitter… or fitter but fatter??? Exactly the same time as my Nov 7 effort :joy::joy:

Slight tail wind going out, headwind on the return so the splits don’t quite tell the whole story…

Left it as late as I could, even did a warm-up on the turbo, but just too icy on the pavements so had to venture off road. Even that was sketchy in places, so pleased to just sneak under 6min/ml.

Forgot just how depressing new years morning is, almost didn’t bother doing more than going for a run, utterly not up to running hard, but I said I’d do it…

Used the Kingston Parkrun course, which was possibly a mistake as it was pretty busy, and also surprisingly slippery, but not in real terms, I’ve run short 18’s in worse conditions on it in parkruns.

3:41
3:54
4:02 (this KM includes the turnaround which is off path on muddy grass, always slower)
3:49
3:51

So 19.17.1 for the lap, 94 seconds slower than PB.

Average heartrate 158, max heartrate 159, at no point was I really hurting - not surprising as I’ve run half marathons 6 beats higher average than that - but I couldn’t run any faster.

Oh and I think the garmin had me even shorter than funkster after I’ve commented on his distance…

Well done @twhat @buzz

Good effort. Same here, procrastinated for a few hours then went to the Bromley ParkRun course but when the mental gun went off all of a sudden I wanted to go hard…too hard.

My PB… 19 something. I can’t seem to find it exactly. Best I have record of is 21:30. Either way, a long way from there!

Managed to get out. Not eaten a thing all day. Feel crap, but surprisingly the crisp air kinda made me feel a whole lot better, and once I got running I felt good (somewhat like the effects of a morning ski lift after a big night).

Shocked myself… (no idea what’s going on my with my Garmin. The GPS is offset)

EDIT - I think the reported distance is way off. Knowing the normal 5k’s I do around the park, a medium lap is 2.4k and so you normally have to do a fair bit more than 2 laps to make the full 5k. So I reckon this is a good 150m or so short, which would explain how I managed to appear to go so fast. So maybe an 18:15ish if things had been accurate
