Eating… anything

Got fed up of my weight not going anywhere (thankfully not up either).

Weighed in at 79.3kg the other day after a weekend of bad eating which is marginally down from winter peak. Clothes aren’t fitting as nicely as they were so definitely need to do something about it.

Watched the BBC programme on ultra-processed foods the other day. Nothing earth shaking but they’re looking into the hypothesis that readily available heavily processed foods are addictive (i.e. re0-wire brain and contribute to you eating more calories, as much as 500 per day).

Trying to get better at eating within a 8-12 hour window and more whole foods. A few days in and my gut feels healthier, scales were kind when I weighed in post run at 77.7kg, though a lot of that will be water.

Same here. I haven’t been particularly focussed on food but I cut out fuelling my workouts over a months ago and absolutely no body composition change.

Usually I’d have lost four kilos by this time of year but it’s not happening - maybe it’s the late seasonal changes

71.7kg. Didn’t do much over the last week and lots of drinking. Back on it today.

Sorry about that, I didn’t mean to confuse the kids on here  .

I’m normally metric, but for some - nostalgic - reason I remember my race weight as a nice round 10 stone.

Pyrenees mid-July & I’ll be happy with sub-15 :joy:

There’s the palaver about getting PCR tests, however the French will let me in if I’ve had my 2 jabs more than a fortnight previously. The problem is the return & the need to self-isolate at home… I think there’s a review in a couple of weeks or so.

Interested on peoples views on body fat. Do you think about it, and if so what sort of level do you aspire to- for performance and for general well-being?

I have some bioimpedence body fat scales & know people say they are not perfect, but the readings do seem to tally with caliper measurements at least. They are pretty stable at around 11%

In terms of health I think that’s probably ok & but sometimes wonder if it would be worth trying to dip down to 9 or 10% body fat, to try to help the race clocks keep up with Father Time. Or does that just make you cold and hangry all the time?

I’m a little conscious of mine, though it’s likely unjustified, just because it sits on my belly only. And maybe my ass a bit. I think the last time i did it on the scales and stuff it was closer to 15%, though i probably look like i have less than that.

My wife tells me off for ‘worrying’ about it (by worry i mean, see myself in a mirror after a shower, for example, have a bit of a moan, then not think about it again). I know alcohol, crisps etc do not help. Increases in training have knocked a tad off it. But i’m not consciously doing anything to impact it specifically. The exercise and eating/drinking are two opposing factors in my lifestyle that clearly contribute to the body fat, but they are not used as a method to control it. I don’t control it.

I think i’m trying my hardest to ensure that i’m aware of it - to make sure it doesn’t take me down an unhealthy route physiologically - but that it doesn’t become an issue so as to have an impact on my mental health, to use a general term.

At the end of the day i have a quick metabolism, i eat a lot and i like eating. Currently that’s not resulting in any issues, that i know of, so i’ll stick with the status quo until something changes. Though age is starting to have an impact.

Yeah, similar ish I think, mine has just settled where it is over a lifetime of carefully balanced exercise beer and chocolate :grinning:

I suspect (but don’t know) that reducing the beer and choc might quite quickly lead to a reduction in body fat. But let’s face it these are twin pillars of my life and I’m kind of thinking, would it be worth it for a few extra seconds and also (pure vanity) would I start to look even more drawn & wrinkly
