Who says that’s arms or legs
Yesterday’s joke…?!
Body image chat thingy.
When I’m shaking my par-boiled veggies before a good olive oil roasting, my belly wobbles and I am thus aware of my excess girth (doesn’t stop me eating the roast dinner though!)
Presently trying to get the body weight back to normal for both athletic and aesthetic reasons. Skipping breakfast, not eating until after midday and attempting a greater proportion of healthy foods and reducing carbs a bit are my main actions to achieving this goal (lost a stone since new year, another stone and a half to go)
Have never actively manipulated body comp and it does feel like the thin end of a potentially weird wedge.
This is my body fat data btw, last 2 years. If you believe the scales and exclude the highest and lowest readings as outlier/error the range seems pretty tight, 10.4% to 10.9% so I guess that’s my default
This is muscle mass data, im no Arnie & dont think want to lose too much of this. It doesn’t appear to have dropped too much in last 2 years though.
Here’s today
So basically I’m kind of toying with the idea of seeing if can dip below 10% BF, while trying to maintain muscle mass. Doesn’t sound like much maybe, but I have a feeling it might be a tough challenge due to mainly to the beer deprivation.
Is it just the 10% challenge or do you think it will help you go faster, so your 10 k tri times will become even more shameful sandbagging ?!
Scales look good.
LOL hopefully go a little faster , or at least not start slowing up a little longer
Edit: scales are just these
Christ thats cheap… no extra cost on the app @fruit_thief ??
Yeh - I thought these things were closer to £100
App included, it seems to work ok
Data probably going straight to Beijing but hey
Now Jinping (sp?) knows how fat or not you are!
In Zombie apocalypse hopefully they’ll harvest >40% BF first
We will be alright lad… not a lot on us anyway !
Little update, I decided to go ahead with a sort of experiment to see whether body fat % changes with cutting out beer and chocolate.
Today is day 7 and not a drop/square has passed my lips, although boy was I tempted on getting home from work last night.
Otherwise, I have just eaten exercised and hydrated normally. Literally the only changes are snacking more on fruit when the urge for something sweet attacks, and drinking sugar free coke or tonic water.
The result so far is that body fat has actually gone up…
So has weight to 69.5kg . Magically it seems not to have affected my Zwift weight though
Realistically I think these differences are probably noise, and the body comp estimates are influenced by level of hydration. I’m probably better hydrated than 1 week ago when was consuming maybe 1000kcal of beer and choc per day, pretty much every day.
Definitely feel a little more sprightly. Am going to see if I can keep it up for a while longer although will undoubtedly crash and burn at some point, my willpower is only so strong.
*** … takes select quote from the whole study that suits his perspective. Now publicises this as fact. ***
More beer and chocolate on the way for me.
A bit off-topic - & I’m not really a footballist - but I enjoyed Ronaldo’s Coca Cola snub .
After seeing your post about the scales I went and got some. Weight immediately went up so I’ve checked back to my old ones and they read about 1kg higher. I got them mostly for the phone tracking thing rather than body comp but…
Not sure accuracy of BF % it says mine is much lower than I think it actually is. I reckon I’m about 18/19% and it’s come up with 13.5%
Anyway, a week of tracking, clean ish eating and moderate exercise for this. Let’s keep the trend up!
Yes I suspect they may under-guess BF. Once had mine measured in a sports science lab at 13%. That was 3 point caliper so again a guess. Getting an accurate measurement using DXA or something would seem super-kinky although I have seen some Slowtwitchers do it.
But hopefully the trend might give some info
Agree with @gingerbongo , so far the conclusion is eat more chocolate and drink more beer. This might be a good time to end the experiment…
PS @Jgav extrapolation suggests that in about 240 days you may need to tie yourself to the ground, to save floating off
Edit: Nooo, have just noticed my wife has gone and bought this
It’s not beer and it’s not chocolate…
If yours is about 3-4% under that would make mine just 17.5% which sounds about right.
Reminds me of the last Stephen King book I read
